    Sami Hyypia Tribute Thread

One more game and I hope he gets to play a part.

The man's a fabulous ambassador for the club and one of the finest players to put on a red shirt that I've had the pleasure of watching first hand. It'll be very sad when that final whistle blows on Sunday.

I'm gutted he isn't ten years younger and hope he has a part to play here in the future.

    Thank You Big Sami

Your best memory of Sami Hyypia?

Rafa Benitez admits Liverpool will be losing a legend when Anfield bids farewell to Sami Hyypia on Sunday.

The 35-year-old Finn will leave on a free this summer after agreeing a two-year deal with German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Benitez is yet to decide his starting XI for the season finale against Tottenham but, whether or not he starts, Hyypia can expect an emotional reception following a decade of faultless service.

"Yes, I think Liverpool are losing a legend," said the Kop boss. "For years he has been so good. He has scored important goals and has been very, very good in defence. Clearly we are losing an important player.

"He will get a fantastic reception from the fans. They are amazing and they recognise when someone has been a very good servant to the club.

"He is a fantastic professional and a very good person, and the fans know this.

"It's good as a manager that, when you have a player with his name and experience, he still wants to learn. I have been really pleased working with him."

Hyypia has not featured since his awesome display in the 4-1 victory at Old Trafford on March 14.

It's going to be a sad day, an end of an era.
Grew up watching players like Hyypia in their prime, holding our defence together game after game.
Good luck to the big man and thanks for the great memories.

His goal against Juve is one of the obvious choices, but I think the impression he made on me the first time I ever saw him live will always be in my mind. I remember having a moment of realisation that he wasn't just good, but ****ing immense. Been a pleasure to have him play for us. Fantastic servant

The man is a legend. I'll never forget being sat on the back row of the main stand for the Juve game on the run up to Istanbul. That goal was sublime and easily my favourite memory of big Sami. That goal summoned one of those celebrations that had everyone near me hugging each other and celebrating like proper nutters. Amazing memories.

Sami = legend. always welcome at Anfield and he better get himself back after he retires, Rafa's new bootroom has a spot waiting!

I will really miss him. I’ve been with him for the whole journey, having been at Hillsborough for his debut. I always say this in Sami threads but the first thing he did in that game was let a long ball bounce in front of him – a cardinal sin for a centre-half – and it duly flew over his head. Me and my mate thought we’d got yet another duff centre-back from Europe.

                          How wrong we were.

Hard to believe he hasn’t featured since we destroyed the Mancs.

He should start on Sunday IMO. To be honest I’d always assumed he’d stay at the club in a coaching capacity. He may well return in such a role sooner or later but to have him depart, and go and play in a different shirt, is very strange and will take some getting used to.

And who the **** is going to pose an attacking threat at corners now?

An integral part of Houllier’s legacy and surely the greatest bargain in LFC history, not to mention the best pound for pound player in Premiership history. L.E.G.E.N.D.

He should start and Gerrard should hand over the armband for the occasion.

It's not like starting him and making him captain is a token gesture either - Sami was on the whole an excellent captain whilst he had the role and showed against the Mancs that when you're a class professional you can come in at the last minute and be sublime.

Take him off with a few minutes to go and let him get the ovation he richly deserves. I hope he gets a testimonial at the end of all this.

I hope he starts as Captain for the day, or take Torres off once we are leading 3-0 and put Big Sammi up front for the last 20 minutes.
