I think it's great news and I'm all for paying Torres the going rate for a world class striker.

Just wondering though, that all got done very quickly and quietly. Why do we **** up when it comes to McManaman, Owen, Agger and Alonso?

Ok maybe the first two are not fair examples, but it goes to show that when both parties are willing it means it can all get done very quickly.

I remember McMahon signing for Liverpool. He said something like "They put a contract in front of me. I signed it. It was all done in half an hour". Thems were the days. I know he's not everybody's favourite guy, but a real hero for me. Even if he was a bluenose.
      Really?

Liverpool tried to shaft McManaman by ****ing him off to Barca. After that he thought **** you. Clearly both parties did not want him to stay.

Owen wanted to see proof that Liverpool were heading in the right direction, and never really showed it in his last seasons. Clearly, he did not want to stay.

Agger wanted to be sure he would be getting some kind of sign that he would be in Rafas long term first team plans. He got that and so signed. The down side was because of this Sami saw the writing on the wall and so left.

Alonso by my accounts still has three years to run on his contract? But as Rafa tried to off load him last summer it would hardly be a massive suprise if was unsettled.

In Torres case he wanted to stay and LFC wanted him to stay. This was shown by a wage rise for El Nino. Torres duly obliged and signed on the dotted line.

Of course, in the days of Mcmahon, there were a lot less agents and a lot less messing about. Times change.
        Forwards.......

Chelsea can have him at 40 but they can **** right off at 30. That's ago by the way, not millions

McManaman was playing hard to get and wanted a move to Spain, the £12m deal was accepted by both parties but he was greedy and wanted to prove a point. Not really the attitude to show towards the club that had given him so much, IMO.

Didn't he end up getting less money playing for Madrid than Barca offered him?

We must be in pretty decent financial health to be handing out so many improved contracts.

I wonder if it is telling that Alonso hasn't had his bumped. I guess his situation is different as he is likely to be on a wage commensurate with his position in the squad already.

According to a report in the mirror today, Fernando got married last wednesday in a small ceremony near madrid with just 2 guests present. I find it hard to believe he was in Spain 'last wednesday' unless they meant this wednesday 2 days ago. Strange
