As a testament to his all-round game, he now finds himself mastering another new position, his fourth regular spot at club level. After transitioning from right back to centre midfield and then to right winger, he is now back where he should be in the middle of the park, an area from which he can have most impact. His attacking midfielder role has yielded fantastic returns so far, with 21 and 24 goals over the last two campaigns. Not content with just scoring goals, he also supplies them, with his name regularly at the top of the list for most assists in his respective league and accuracy percentage on corners.

I have to laugh when some people say he's the best in the world! He was pretty much average in that CL final, yes he scored, but he wasn't as good as that.

He's not consistent enough yet to be even considered in the same league as Stevie.

Yeah but his game is rather patchy mate in the sense he either does brilliant stuffs or completely goes out of games.

Hmm..I disagree. He never hides, it's just he can be marked a lot some games and the rest of the Barca team is so good that they don't feel the need to play through Messi constantly. You can't argue with his record

Gotta disagree with you here I'm afraid Fredo, I think it is very debatable who is the best player in the world, and whilst I would choose Gerrard due to his versatility (and my bias ) there really isn't much in it at all. Messi his a very special player and has had a wonderful season.

Yeah Messi is fantastic, but I'm not sure he can be classed in that category yet! Just my opinion. Compared to Stevie's consistency over the course of a number of seasons, I think he deserves that accolade for that matter alone, much more than Messi!

Best player in the world, for me. I think most regular watchers of La Liga would agree that he's a special player and does it on a consistent basis.
