What would a Setanta collapse mean to LFC

Just seeing the news that Satanta sports failed to make payments to the premier league and could proberbly go into administration what would this cost Liverpool in revenue?. I subscribed to Satanta for 2 main reason's.

Number 1 the Liverpooltv channel is part of their package and 2 because of live footy, what deal did LFC.TV have with Satanta and would the channel be available through other means besides internet .And more to the point how much will this cost the club in lost revenue?

The Liverpool FC television channel could be temporarily taken off air if broadcaster Setanta falls into administration, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Reds bosses said the channel, which is owned by the club but part of the Setanta package, would not be affected if they went into administration.

If Setanta go bust, Lfc.tv could disappear from the screens, but bosses claim only for a short period until a new arrangement is found.

      However would we cope?
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

The Premier League will now go ahead and auction the 46 UK live matches for the 2009/10 season.

Im not really concerned about the live footy matches, Im more concerned about LFCTV and the financial inpact this might have on the club, even chelski got their own channel rights , but we was part of a satanta package

              I feel suitably chastened.

The difference is that for Chelsea it doesn't matter if it runs at a loss, which I'm sure it does, just like everything else they do.

Various journalists were estimating last night that the new deal for the Setanta package would be worth around 40% less than the inflated Setanta bid. It will undoubtedly cost the club a few million.

I'm guessing that LFCTV hasn't made us much money but more importantly probably hasn't lost us much either. Here's Parry's comments at the time of inception:

                    Reds in Setanta TV deal
Jul 11 2007 by Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL today announced details of a multi-million pound deal with Setanta Sports as they prepare to launch the club’s TV channel.

Subscribers to the Irish sports network, which recently won the rights to screen 46 live Premiership games this season, will now receive Liverpool TV as part of their package.

From September, Liverpool fans will be able to watch delayed coverage of all the club’s fixtures, as well as live reserve games and six hours a day of original broadcasts.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry, who chose Setanta’s three-year offer ahead of a rival bid from Sky, believes it’s an exciting development for the club.

He said: “We’ve been thinking about this for some time, but until Setanta came to us with an extremely attractive offer, I wasn’t entirely convinced by the traditional model of club TV stations.

“What’s attractive about this package is it’s available to all subscribers. The channel is effectively a free addition on top of what’s available as part of the Setanta Sports pack.

“The channel heralds a new era for Liverpool Football Club.

“We always welcome the opportunity to engage with our fantastic fan-base and LFC TV will bring them closer to the club and the team they love, at what is a very exciting time both on and off the pitch."

Several top clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Celtic and Rangers have been broadcasting their own channels for several years, but, unlike Liverpool’s deal, they all demand an additional subscription.

It will be running at a loss anyway, as the advertising demand is small and as its on a pay per view basis ( i.e Satanta ).

Think the club as a whole has more things to worry about than this channel though. Plus like a few people have been saying its nothing special. Handy for game replays and interviews now and again like.

Believe me, it costs more than £2.5m to run a TV station, no matter how small

                              its should go out free.

Best way to capture new fans.
