Also, if you believe the received wisdom then him going off against Leverkusen was one of the worst for us in recent times.

He won us the FA Cup too. About that time I coined the phrase "Cometh the hour, cometh Hamann", but it didn't catch on.

                Legend. Loved the man.

I saw him in a kebab shop on Smithdown Road in about 99. We were waiting for our food and Didi came in, clearly pissed, and ordered a pizza. He was told it'd be about 15 minutes so he ordered a chicken kebab ("will that be....um....immediate?") which he absolutely scoffed while he waited. It was one of those shameless, pissed up, 'I haven't eaten for weeks' drunken scoffs. 'kin hilarious it was.

Houllier's best signing after big Sami. Real class player and a top bloke by all accounts - a Scouser with a German accent.
His contribution in Istanbul gets shamefully overlooked by non LFC fans.

can't believe no-one's mentioned his skipping after Dudek saved the last pen, as Carra's storming around the pitch you can see Didi at the back skipping, it's hilarious

Probably down to him having a broken ankle at the time.

Broken foot actually, and he'd played most of ET with it so why would he suddenly start doing it at the end?

                            Hamman released

No surprise really. He'd be quality for a mid-to-lower table team. Didi

Mills has always been ****. I also remember when we were linked with Ball and we just missed out on signing him for £8m

Vassell has also signed for a random Turkish club, according to some reports. Seen some great pictures with him being mobbed by their fans

Manchester City have confirmed that Danny Mills, Darius Vassell, Dietmar Hamann and Michael Ball have all been released.

The quartet were not offered new contracts by manager Mark Hughes after falling down the pecking order at Eastlands and are now free to take up other offers.

Mills has not been part of the first-team for more than 12 months, while last season Vassell and Hamann both struggled for fitness.

Michael Ball was a regular for the start of the last campaign, but the former Everton player lost his place following the arrival of Wayne Bridge.

Vassell has been linked with a move to Turkey and is holding talks with Ankaragucu ahead of possible switch to the Super Lig side.

In the very early days of the panamerican club, one of the bartenders came over and said "hey, can you handle this wonky guy at the bar?"

I looked over and, for the first time ever, saw Didi waiting by the bar, blinking furiously.

"It's alright," I said. "That's just Didi Hamann. He's just like that."
