      LFC APPOINTS MANAGING DIRECTOR
      Paul Eaton 22 June 2009

Liverpool FC Co-Chairmen, George Gillett and Tom Hicks, today announced the appointment of Christian Purslow as Managing Director of the Club.
Christian Purslow will assume overall management of the Club until the appointment of a new Chief Executive, and will then continue as a Board Director. As Managing Director, Purslow will represent the owners and oversee all financial and operational aspects of the Club, working with Rafa Benitez on player transfers and with the Club's Group Chief Financial Officer, Philip Nash and Commercial Director, Ian Ayre on Club and commercial management.

George Gillett said: "Tom and I felt that it was important to put a highly experienced and respected executive in place to run the Club and support the senior team and the Manager. There's a lot to get done over the summer to build on the great season we just had and Christian will be a valuable addition to the team."

Tom Hicks added: "Christian has been a great supporter of the Club for many years and he's already built up good relationships at Anfield. His strategic and commercial acumen will be a real asset and we're delighted that he has made a long term commitment to the Club."

Christian Purslow, 45, a long time Liverpool season ticket holder, is an Executive Board member of MidOcean Partners, a private equity firm which he co-founded. He was previously a director of Morgan Grenfell Private Equity. Prior to his private equity career Purslow was Head of Media, Cable and Entertainment for Schroder Salomon Smith Barney in Europe and head of UK Mergers and Acquisitions for Credit Suisse First Boston. Purslow is a fluent Spanish speaker, has a modern Languages degree from Cambridge University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Executive search firm Odgers Berndtson is conducting the CEO recruitment process and an appointment will be made in due course.

I think that rules out any chance of the takeover talks being about us.

THE British Venture Capital Association (BVCA) last night named Isis Equity Partners as Private Equity House of the Year after the investment firm managed to sell seven businesses in 2003.

Isis, the venture capital arm of Friends Provident, the insurer, made an overall return of 2.2 times its investment on its 2003 disposals, which included Tricom, the distributor of plumbing and heating equipment that it bought for £5 million and sold for £32 million.

Isis, which raised a £166 million investment fund and made seven acquisitions last year, also sold blue 8, an emergency services software company, for £10 million three years after buying it for £3.2 million.

Isis managed to make the disposals in a year when sales of companies in the UK fell by 20 per cent to 232, of which about 100 went through receivership, according to research published yesterday by Grant Thornton Corporate Finance, the advisers.

The BVCA also named the sale of Center Parcs as its deal of the year at last night’s awards at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, which were sponsored jointly with Real Deals magazine.

Manjit Dale and Stephen Robertson led the £700 million acquisition of Center Parcs from Scottish & Newcastle in March 2001 when they were at DB Capital Partners, which later changed its name to MidOcean.

Along with Christian Purslow and Julian Seaward, they made a £525 million profit from their £114 million equity investment when they sold the business in two parts last year.

The UK business was sold to Collins Stewart, the broker, which immediately floated it on the London Stock Exchange, and the continental European operation was sold to Pierre & Vacances, a French leisure firm.

By the time the deal team sold Center Parcs, Mr Dale, Mr Robertson and Mr Seaward had left DB Capital Partners to set up TDR Capital, while Mr Purslow remained.

The other winners last night included Catalyst Corporate Finance, which was voted Boutique of the Year, while Barclays Capital was Debt Provider of the Year and Abingworth Management was named Fund of the Year after raising $350 million (£197 million) of new investment capital for a life sciences fund, more than twice its orginal target.

If he knows the club then it's a good appointment.

Still, I'm suspicious of anybody called Christian.
