Sounds like you speak from bitter experience.

Sure, I think it's a sensible choice he's made. I was merely pointing out the ludicrous double standards we all have a tendency to apply from time to time. I wasn't singling out ronanm or seeking to impute Johnson's motives.Originally posted by Nicey View PostPerhaps he thinks we are a club Genuinely going places

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Of course, of course.Originally posted by ronanm View PostI believe Man City were in for him too.. So, although he'll get a hike in wages, he's not quite the mercenary Barry is.
See above.

does anyone feel that he had no choice but to sign for us?
i mean, Portsmouth still owed us money for Crouch, and as they are cash strapped.. so no way of paying it back in real money.. the only asset they had was glen johnson.. and therefore the only way to pay us back was to sell him to us, thus johnson not having a choice.
dont get me wrong, i think hes a good player, and i hope he does very well.. good luck to him

suppose you could say that.. but who knows, maybe they told glen they would prefer it if he came to us? But it was down to them..Originally posted by -V- View PostNo because Pompey openly admitted to accepting a bid from Chelsea and Johnson had previously said he wanted to join a top 4 club. Pompey could've easily taken Blues offer (if GJ was in agreement) and paid us the amount owed from Crouch deal and pocketed the difference.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

He did.
Talk Sport presenters musings on GJ.( not everyones cup of tea i know, but this is what they said.)
Mickey Quinn said he met GJ at a race meeting, spoke for 45 mins to him, asked him about Liverpool and whether he'd like to play for us, and he replied "i would love to join Lfc given the chance".
Alan Brazil said Yesterday, he was sat at a table with GJ at a footie dinner, again GJ was very complimentary about LFC.
Brazil also said Crouchie, also at the same table as was Peter Storie, was none to complimentary about Rafa, not saying he tried to put GJ off as i don't know when this was, but not that long ago.
So as you say, i don't believe he was forced to do anything, it was his choice.

Not really mate. Surely the £17mil from Chelsea was just as good as ours and instead of us writing off the Crouch money they could just have written a cheque to us when the Chelsea cash was in.Originally posted by Jaymo View Postdoes anyone feel that he had no choice but to sign for us?

wouldnt be suprised if that was true about crouch, although I hope not. A big ego seems to be a crucial part of a footballers make up these days. And Im sure Crouch is no different. You probably need that self belief to rise to the top in such a competitive sport.
Realistically, he was never good enough to displace Torres up front, and wasnt prepared to be used as backup, so he had to go. Sorry PeteK ris90210
