barry harps on about wanting to play champions league football and in arsenal and lfc there were two teams who probably would have fought it out to sign him this year had he said no to city. but he is a greddy cunt who fell for the lure of higher wages over champs football.....something city will have to wait possibly 2-3- years to get. so glad we never got him. the man is a cunt.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

I suspect most people don't think there is anything wrong with it. More that it seems counter intuitive to most fans to choose money over glory when you are already very well paid. There is a very understandable argument in this case that they could feel that City offers them the chance to be in on the ground level of what could be a very successful project for City.
I don't have any problem with players wanting money so long as they put in the effort on the pitch for whoever they play for. As a fan however it is much easier to love a player who clearly loves playing for your team like Reina than one who has settled for it or views it purely as a job."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

If you weren't an LFC fan and you were in his position, I reckon you'd have gone to man city for a number of pretty good reasons:Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Postbarry harps on about wanting to play champions league football and in arsenal and lfc there were two teams who probably would have fought it out to sign him this year had he said no to city. but he is a greddy cunt who fell for the lure of higher wages over champs football.....something city will have to wait possibly 2-3- years to get. so glad we never got him. the man is a cunt.
1) they are financially secure
2) they have a great new stadium
3) they are buying quality players and building a very good squad
4) there is the challenge, a realistic target of giving them something they have never had - CL football
5) there is a better chance of first team football
6) excellent wages
Give the guy a break and stop being so bitter.

1) they are financially secure - true
2) they have a great new stadium - true
3) they are buying quality players and building a very good squad - disagree with that. they are buying decent players. but none of a standard i would say is any better than the aston villa, everton or spurs. of the 150 million plus they have spent, the only one i'd be happy with is robinho
4) there is the challenge, a realistic target of giving them something they have never had - CL football - but why not stay at villa where the challenge element would mean more if they succeed
5) there is a better chance of first team football - just as good a cgance at the arsenal or staying at villa
6) excellent wages - true
Give the guy a break and stop being so bitter.
bitter??
i'm delighted we never got him. been posting for ages he isn't good enough.
plus, it's tough to say how i would have chosen. i'm money driven.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

I think we do have to consider it though - in terms of how we target players in the same way we do or have done with United and Chelsea in the past. What is important is that we can offer competitive packages to players who we want and who want to come here and give their all. There will be a lot of players who some would call mercenaries who will follow the money but they might well still be the right option for us and it is probably worth us keeping many deals on the qt to avoid too much competition.Originally posted by Parm View Postfair comment by Pepe, but lets not worry about Citeh and their situation"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I thought we did but he joined City anyway?Originally posted by carheex View PostYou can't expect someone to sign for LFC based on the fact that "you" think we're the greatest club in the universe, therefore they should accept lower wages and feel privileged that we want them.
I think it's harsh to say that Barry is greedy. We didn't meet the asking price, man city did, and they offered him a huge pay rise to join them from Villa. What exactly is wrong with that?
What I think you have misunderstood is the fact that these boys are paid more money than they could ever spend in the first place. Can you imagine being paid £50 - £100K per week? Using an excuse such as financial security for their family is total bollards they have taken the money ahead of ambition. Barry is the wrong side of 20 now and the reason he stated he wanted to leave Villa was for CL football something which City can't offer at the min. Pepe is saying that a CL or PL winners medal as a footballer is worth well more than 20K per week extra in their pay packet considering they will become multi millionaires anyway before they retire.
I'm not saying what Barry did and Tevez is going to do is wrong it's their choice but it certainly isn't something a lot of players would do.Last edited by Pacman; 07-07-09, 03:27 PM.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

We have done that since Rafa has been in charge. It has always been the selling club that has spilt the beans. All big clubs want to keep deals quiet until they're done.Originally posted by dww View PostI think we do have to consider it though - in terms of how we target players in the same way we do or have done with United and Chelsea in the past. Small clubs on the other hand go the other way to attract publicity. Blackburn chasing RVN and Hull chasing Owen is two examples. Everton and Riquelme is another. Little chance of signing the player but blah about it in the press to sell season tickets or make the fans feel better.Forwards.......

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yeah, how would their destitute, starving children ever be able to survive on the eighty thousand a week they would have made at Liverpool? Should we have a quick whip round? I don't use the term "hero" often, but Tevez and Barry might be the GREATEST HEROES THAT EVER LIVED FOR THEIR BRAVE DECISION.Originally posted by carheex View PostVery heart warming of Pepe. He's wrong though, in my opinion. These players have families and futures to sort out
I, personally, have turned down higher paying positions for one I have had greater belief in. For one that, at the end of thea day, meant more. And we are talking about lads that make more in a week, than I make in a year.
Playing for Liverpool and helping us win number 19 should mean more than a few excessive quid a week.
I do not post here often, but Careex sir... you and your opinion can go f**k yourselfjD

Exactly

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."
