    Strength in depth

Following on from United's departures and quality high profile replacements I was wondering if there could be any argument as to who, on paper at least, was the stronger team. Assuming each side's first choice (every one) fit line up is as foolows:

    Reina Van der Sar
    Johnson Rafael
    Carragher Ferdinand
    Agger Vidic
    Aurelio Evra
    Kuyt Valencia
    Mascherano Hargreaves
    Alonso Carrick
    Riera Park
    Gerrard Rooney
    Torres Berbatov

On a like for like basis - ie each Liverpool player up against the respective United player on a head to head basis I can only see 4 United players who, in my opinion, would get into our first 11. Namely Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra and Park.

    In terms of the squad players it is closer, but nevertheless still close. Namely;

    Cavaleiri Foster
    Arbeloa Neville
    Skrtel Brown
    Kelly Evans
    Insua O'Shea
    El Zhar Fletcher
    Lucas Scholes
    Spearing Anderson
    Benayoun Nani
    Babel Giggs
    N'Gog Owen

Again, on a like for like basis, I would take Foster, Evans, O'Shea, Fletcher, Anderson and, I suppose, Owen.

Shows just how close we are to bringing number 19 home. I firmly believe 09/10 will finally be the year this is achieved.

    BELIEVE!

I would be grateful to know what people's thoughts are on the above

Frankly, after watching Vidic's Bambi on ice performances against us twice last season, when he was laughably bad, I wouldn't touch him with a cattle prod. He's constantly found out against big teams. No wonder Rafa highlighted him as a weak link when attackers play the ball on the deck in front of him and the equally over-rated Ferdinand. Evra's a classic full-back of the good-going-forward-but-can't defend kind, while as for Park......seriously, he's complete and utter ****

riera is the better player but park is more consistent.

I'd knock vidic off that list - would take skrtel or agger over him, i'd also consider carragher vs ferdinand but last season carragher was relatively poor whilst ferdinand was better than he usually is.

so yeah evra is a better left back than we have.

Not a chance. The bloke is a Grade A cunt!
Jellyfish are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful

Looking through there backup you could probably make a case for most of there's being better for 1 reason - experience. But we are another year on, scholes and giggs must b nearly dead and hoping that our lot learned a lot last year

I think it will be better to make comparisons come August 31st.

You're absolutely right, however we have nothing to fear now against any team.
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.

Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

Looking at the two squads and considering we have players who are developing whilst some of United's alternative options are well past their best, I'd say we have a much stronger first team and squad. We just need other teams to believe that they can beat United next season.

I think there squad is better at present, just. A lot will depend on whose youths make progress. We have a lot of potential, as do they.

If Nemeth rediscovered his form there is no reason he could not be first team squad material, same goes for Pacheco if he's been eating steak all summer. Whilst it is also time for Spearing and Darby to step up, whilst the same goes for Hammill. Then we have N'gog who has shown enough to me to suggest he could push on a bit more this season.

They will expect similar things from their youth set up. Fergie for example reckons Danny Welbeck could yet make the plane for South Africa with England.

I don't think there is much between the squads at the moment, there is less now than there was last season and we ran them close, the difference between us in the league could come down to who can grind out a result or a bit of luck. I think we're quite even in terms of quality.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
