Is our team capable to challenge the title that we do no need any new player?

It seems that we are not going to get any new players afterall. I am not expecting any new players once we depart east asia.

Does Rafa know more than us? Or have we really blown our budget on GJ?
Or are we going to promote our youth this season?

GJ is a new player unless I missed something big last window?

And it depends upon whom the mancs sign. IMHO if they don't make some big signings providing Gerrard and Torres stay fit we're in with a great chance.

However we're not even halfway through the window yet, a bit early to judge.

Strange thread really since we were so close last season and we have added a better player in a suspect week position from last year.Yes,I do expect to challenge for the title!

I still think that we need another attacking player as it was too many home draws that cost us last season. Glen Johnson wouldn't single handedly have won us the games against Stoke, West Ham, Fulham and the like last season.

Other options from the bench are needed at times during a season and Voronin and Ngog are not the answers in my opinion.

I actually think that Johnson could offer much to our attacking play, so that his addition can turn some draws into wins. Besides offering width I am hoping that he will offer Kuyt a platform to improve his game even more.
          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

It's not really Johnson alone but the fact we might have Agger fit more and may see developments from players like Ngog, Lucas, El Zhar and even Riera that makes me feel we could challenge without more signings. As it happens I think we will see another attacking signing.

Unlike most seasons where everyone else has been building from a position of greater strength than us I genuinely feel that this summer we started more or less level or ahead of our main competition. the problem is that they were still very good and in all likelihood have greater funds to improve further than we do.

The bookies are a good benchmark, their odds for Liverpool winning the title next season are around 3-1. That indicates that we will be in the hunt again. Whether we win it or not depends on Alonso and Mascherano and IMO not necessarily who else we bring in. Next season will be the time for Babbel to show his worth along with Nabil. I think there will be one more signing particularly as Arbeloa's proposed departure will bring in some more cash.

IF the season started today I genuinley think that we would win the title.

However there is still about 7 weeks left until the transfer window closes. It all depends on who ManU & Chelsea sign really.

Also as Rafa has stated its important we keep this squad together as we are on the verge of something big.

Apart from 1996 I aint felt this optimistic about a season since 1990. I can't wait!!

Our potential problem is that we have a few players whose form tends to fluctuate. Yossi, Riera and Gerrard have always been players who go through cycles. Our success will depend on how consistent those three are as much as any new signings (and the usual caveats re:injuries etc).

Gerrard is one of our most consistent players.

Seeing as last year our team did challenge for the title your first question is pretty stupid. we did and if we keep our central midfield together, expect us to do so once again.

'Does rafa know more than us?' of course he does he works with the players day in, day out.

We have already promoted several youth players to train with the 1st team squad so yes, rafa wants these guys to have a chance of figuring but its highly unlikely he will call upon them over experienced players in big games barring some kind of freak injury crisis.

Would that be the same Gerrard who has been our most consistent player for the last 8 or so seasons? Think its a very strange comment to label him as anything other than Mr Consistancy be honest

He's a slow starter. You must remember all the interviews, usually at the beginning of the season or just after an injury, "I'm almost back to my best"

Credit to him he always does, but he has his peaks and troughs too.

IMO we need 4 players to challenge not just for the league but to fight on two fronts (champions league), they would be:-

                            1. An experienced striker who is happy to be a squad player (I think Tuncay would be a great buy)

                            2. An experienced defender who would also be happy to be a squad player (Distin?)

                            3. Something different attacking wise on the left - Ideally David Silva but if we don't have the money we still need something different/competition for Reira.

                            4. Something different on the right - I love Kuyt, but it would be great to have someone to keep him on his toes and/or give us something different. Kuba is someone who's name has appeared on here alot over the past few months. - I see Benni as Gerrard's backup, i'd prefer to see him more centrally next season i.e. being brought on for Gerrard with 15 minutes to go if we're winning/cup games etc

You really need to watch Liverpool play a little more.
