Team with Alonso or Team with Silva?

So the Alonso to Madrid story is gathering pace. I was thinking nightmare, just when we were getting close our player of the season is off. Then I started thinking actually, we may now get Silva. Looking at the two teams below, what looks better to you?

    ---------------------------Torres-----------------------------
    Riera--------------------Gerrard-----------------------Kuyt
    --------------------Masherano----Alonso--------------------
    Insua------------Agger------------Carragher------Johnson-
    ---------------------------Reina------------------------------

    or

    ---------------------------Torres-----------------------------
    Riera--------------------Silva----------------------------Kuyt
    --------------------Masherano----Gerrard--------------------
    Insua------------Agger------------Carragher------Johnson-
    ---------------------------Reina------------------------------

Alonso, if only because it leaves the Gerrard/Torres partnership intact. IMO it would be demented to break it up.

Losing Alonso, although inevitable, doesn't bear worth thinking about.

It would set us back a year.

That's such an easy one. A team with Alonso.

            I would prefer this:

            ........Mascher....Lucas
            Kuyt........Gerrard.......Silva
            .............Torres

            to this:

            ........Mascher...Alonso
            Kuyt.....Gerrard......Riera
            ...........Torres

having said that, I would not rely on Lucas as a nr. 1 midfielder next season so we would have to get someone in, and that could be a problem.

Xabi. If we just swapped him for Silva though, we would effectively have spent nothing this summer- with the Johonson moeny effectively being from Keane's sale.
                3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Absolutely agree, I would hate to see the Gerrard \ Torres partnership broken up, certainly until Silva \ Torres have played together for a substantial period at Liverpool (although international experience together would be beneficial).

Ideally for me the Alonso money would go on a replacement plus an attacking player. I still worry that if Torres is out for an extended period next year our title push could falter in a big way. Obviously we're not going to get Silva & Villa or any of the other dream combos but someone like Sneidjer (spelling?) in p\x for Alonso plus Silva would be a decent bit of business if you assume Alsonso is going one way or another. I think Lucas is improving but he really needs to pick it up this season on I think Rafa will shift him on next year as another failed experiment.

I think I too would be happy with that, 20m + Sneijder for Alonso then spend the 20m on Silva, that would improve us.

                    ----------------------Torres-----------------------
                    Silva------------------Gerrard---------------Kuyt
                    -----------------Sneijder----Mash----------------
                    Insua----------Agger--------Carragher---Johnson
                    -----------------------Reina------------------------

Not really a fan of anyone at Madrid. They may have some young players we could be interested in but the team that played us last year all looked lacking in ambition, pace, physicality and winning mentality. The last thing we need is someone to come in who needs their confidence rebuilding or to be mollycoddled.

hence why they have gone after any cunt who can kick a ball this summer.

Sniejder is the only one who on paper would look a good exchange but in reality i thought he was ****ing ****e for madrid last season

He was ****e against us and his attitude was borderline disgraceful, I know that much, but in the Euros he looked sheer class. I'd probably take a punt on him, although a prima donna Dutch loon like him might be too much of a risk.

If we did take a punt on Sneijder (which I wouldn’t mind at all), it would also put us in a strong position if young Rodney fulfils his potential.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
