but he hasnt got time on his side, the earliest they will get into the champs league is 3 seasons away imo.

and by then he will be on the downward spiral and being replaced by someone else who they have just paid 475 million pounds for.

he doesnt care about trophies thats plain to see? no?

That's his only problem really. How long will it take to challenge for top honours.
        Forwards.......

If he isn't a mercenary then I don't know what is.
Do you really buy into that? He'd been at Villa for donkey's years, Liverpool came in for him and fancied playing for a big club. So as not to upset the villa fans, he said "one of the reasons for wanting to leave villa" is for the chance to play in the champions league. Players say all sorts of things - you can't hold them to it!
Barry has joined another club now - one that stumped up the asking price. Get over it!

so by saying that, as fans we have the right to turn on him for saying such a thing......same as if fowler left his Aussie team and went to Scum after saying he never would.

He has clearly left for a team with more potential.....but i wouldnt be surprised to see Villa ahead of them this year.

Get over what? I never wanted the guy in the first place!

He is a professional footballer and however greedy you are you would still want to be at the top of your profession, look at Kaka turning down City. I'm sure that more than enough of the attraction to us was CL football but I'm sure you disagree but he is the one who looks like a cock now for saying such a thing when clearly that wasn't the biggest draw for him. If you think he joined City for anything other than money then you are living in lala land

Not sure Barry ever had that desire to get to the top, just like Mathew Le Tissier.

Whether he is not sure deep down whether he has the ability or its greed thats for others to decide

He's an england international is he not? it's highly unlikely that he has doubts concerning his ability.
And as for the greed issue, if we're honest there isn't a single one of us here who wouldn't want to treble our salary.

That's quite clearly not all there is to it though in the Barry case, is there?

but thats not the issue? its would you take

                        a) 100,000ish a week and go to a team that is almost certain to be challenging for the title for the next few years

                        b) 140,000 a week to go to a team that has a great chance of challenging for the title within a few seasons.

all this towards the end of your career playing for an above average non challenging premiership team

                        t

I'd be happy with either(!), but option A wasn't available to Mr Barry. His choices were:

                          A) stay at Villa, earning 40K(?), without a hope in hell of playing CL football while he's still a professional

                          or

                          B) move to city, treble his salary, play with some world class players and have a pretty good chance of playing CL football for a year or 2 before he retires.

Again, I'm not sure what he is supposed to have done that is so wrong?

                            £40k p/w at Villa?

You really think that's all he was on?

And i'll say again - it's not a problem that he chased the money, but why lie about it?

Oh come on, every man and his dog knew we were in for him.

he signed 1 day into the transfer window, if it was trophies he wanted or CL football even, do you think he may have waited just a little bit longer than 24hrs into the transfer window to choose which club he was going to move to?
