    Why 3rd favourites???

Just seen the current odds to win the PL and they are:

    7/4 - Mancs
    9/4 - Chelsea
    3/1 - Us
    9/1 - Arsenal
    12/1 - City

Now, let's take in the facts.

Mancs have lost Ronaldo and Tevez and 'replaced' them with Valencia and Owen. Much much weaker, for me. Chelsea have a new manager, so nobody can be sure how well they'll do. Could work out, but might not. Plus 'Mr Chelsea' looks like he might up sticks and go to City.

Us on the other hand, havent (yet) lost any significant players. We've signed the best English right back who'll give us a new dimension going forward and we're looking to have SG & FT fit and playing together which didnt happen much last season.

And yet, we're considerably less fancied than either of the other 2.

Is it just me who finds these odds strange? Especially the mancs. 7/4??? ****e price.

If I was running a book I'd make us favourites, genuinely.

It is indeed a bit odd, but I'd rather we weren't installed as favourites anyway to be honest, so it's fine by me.

Only because we haven't won it for 20 years. The bookies will never make us favourites before the start of the season unless we're the defending champions.

In terms of strength, our first team is better than the mancs or Chelsea. In terms of depth though, the other two are stronger.

It's because of our humilating defeat by Rapid Vienna, that or Veronin is back. Perhaps its a combination of the two.

I think the speculation about Alonso and Mascherano is a big reason.

The fact that United have come through so many times when people have written them off pretty much justifies them having shorter odds than we might judge them at as LFC supporters. Chelsea is an interesting one. I guess the feeling is that they will probably spend and on last seasons evidence when they were motivated they were pretty close to challenging any way.

If Alonso leaves then I think most people would agree that we would no longer even in their heads be rational favourites and it is that vulnerability to loss of players through sale or injury that makes us a longer odds bet IMO.

It is clearly because the bookies think we will lose Alonso, and do not know how well we will cope without him.

If we kapet Xabi and signed Young, with no more major additions to the other teams we would clearly be favourites.

i think we are justifiably 3rd favourites both Chelsea and Scum have showed that they have the bottle for a title win.....whereas we havent.

as much as they have lost ronaldo and tevez, teams will probably still go to old trafford roll over and get there bellies tickled

In that case, the odds of 3/1 must be very tempting to you.

Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

Dont get me wrong, i can see why we're not favourites, but it's a fairly significant gap in the prices and if i was running a book on it, i'd find it hard to separate the top 3.

                      I'd be looking at 7/4, 15/8 and 2/1.

I think its because of the timing of the prices and there is still plenty of time until the transfer window closes.

IF the current squads stay as they are, expect our odds to drop. However Fergie has the Ronaldo money burning a hole in his pocket.

Chelesa will also be at that price as their best player (Essien) was missing a majority of last season, yet they only finished a few points behind us.

I genuinley think we will win it this season, and i aint thought that for ages. Im glad i stuck £20 on City last month though at odds of 40/1.

paddy power will double the winnings if you bet on a liverpool league win, if we win the fa cup as well and treble them if we win CL and FA cup

I don't mind us being third favourites. The Alonso factor is definitely one reason why we are at 3's. If he is still here at the start of the season then those odds will shorten. A good start like last season and it won't be long until we are top of the list. I say get in now because you might not get better as the season goes on (fingers crossed).
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.

Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."
