    Are we mugs?

I'm ****ed with all this talk about Mascher and Alonso, if the pair of them leave this summer, crawling on their hands and knees towards a large bucket of cash, I will end my relationship with the game. Their bank accounts must be bursting whilst us supporters struggle to keep our pathetic jobs. We struggle to pay our bills and worry about keeping our low paid jobs whilst our heroes sit chewing the fat forever looking for more...Sitting in their mansions, working a few hours a day, not settling into life in the UK...if you can't settle into life on a £100k a week you haven't tried hard enough. Its bull****, it comes down to nothing more than greed. They want a bit more sun or a house on the coast. If you gave this lot an ice cream with a flake and strawberry sauce, they'd want gold sprinkles or they'd throw it back in your face.

I've started to detest the game and over the last few years as things get worse, I'm looking for alternatives. I certainly can't continue giving my support to this team and this sport. Being a supporter is becoming a joke, the joke is most definitely on us.

Excuse me if I'm being daft, but do the majority of us actually love our jobs? Do we go to work thinking great, another day in the office??? No, real life is a struggle. Its mundane, its boring, its stressful, its ****. We work to live, we put up with **** wages and **** working environments because it pays the bills. If you're earning several million pound a year, and for 10 or 15 years only, you're in heaven. You're one of the luckiest muther****ers on the planet...but then thats not enough for some. They forever want a little bit more.

Alonso has been bitching and moaning about this for a couple of months now. He hasn't put in an official request because the greedy ****er probably doesn't want to forfeit his transfer fee. Mascher, as someone has already said, was happy as feck to move to england a couple of years ago, and happier still when LFC gave him a lifeline from West Ham's bench. Now all of a sudden, he's not happy and wants to move to Barca....and would you adam and eve it, he's so gutless he won't even say it himself, he's going through his agent. You can bet that both also don't want to kiss goodbye to the transfer fee, and therefore won't hand in a transfer request, they'll keep making statements and Barca will eventually get their man.

Modern footballers are scum, do they deserve our worship? I'm starting to doubt it. The joke is on us the supporters. Ticket prices and Sky subscriptions increasing to help pay these feckers ever increasing wages whilst the rest of us face redundancy, some are even taking pay cuts to keep their businesses afloat. Are we mugs, are we fools?

I've rambled too much, I'm totally deflated and very close to kissing goodbye to this game for good, but if I should leave then the saying is that there's one born every minute...

FatTony - while they may be overpaid, greedy, whingeing, ungrateful scum - while they still have the red shirt they are our overpaid, greedy, whingeing, ungrateful scum and I won't hear another word against them.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

They're not ours though are they? They answer to nobody but themselves. They take our money and wear our shirt only until something more rewarding comes along.

We could offer them the Earth and they'd only stay until someone offered them the moon as well.

Definitely a great post. Absolutely spot on. Money, in most cases is a player main objective. I am only 22 so have not been following football for as long as some people, but I still detest what the game has become. They should be playing for the love of the game, and more importantly, the pride in pulling on your teams shirt, and busting your guts to do your best for the team. Its not a hard job, even if they get injured they get the best healthcare. I dont see a footballer on the waiting list for a leg operation for 6 weeks or whatever. Soon, the game/league will be decided by the rich arab/yank etc owners and how much money they can spend.

Got to agree with him (Fat Tony) .I've been feeling the same the last few years, sick to the back teeth listening to some footballers and their wage demands.

I remember a German news article (Bild) about Michael Ballack moaning that he couldn't afford to live in London because it was too expensive, wtf,he's on nearly 200 K a month.

I breath LFC and not one man is bigger than the club,if he goes, then so be it. I would prefer him stay though.

I have to say i am slowly coming aroumd to this way of thinking too, as are many of my friends and family. To put this in context i am the leper of our family, ALL my family, brothers, sisters, dad, uncles, aunties, cousins are ALL Manc fans. I saw the light, something drew me to this fine club and christ know's over the past twenty years we have had arguements and fall out's big time to the point of fisticuffs with my brother, but now after all this time we are all disgruntled with this game and our respective teams. I mean what the hell is the world coming to when that little Judas scum lord signs on for the scum holding another club hanging on with the promise of contract talks at the end of the season only to run to wherever the money is. How can he go to training and look neville, ferg and rooney straight in the face???
I have already lost all respect for Mascher, we rescued him from West Ham reserves, and what two years later he is basically running out of town, Alonso too plucked from obscurity and moulded into one of europes top midfielders and now he runs too, just what the hell is this game coming too????
For the first time in twenty years my family actually agrees on something, money is ruining the game we love, bring back the local players we say, where has the loyalty gone???????
                Anyway rant over!!!!

In October I lose my job. I've been there since I left Uni 11 years ago. I earn less than the UK average wage and I'm in scared to death that I won't be able to find another job in this climate. I have a mortgage to pay and I have my pride. I worry where I'm going to be this time next year and to hear Alonso come out with his comments about pay and to watch he and Mascherano orchestrate moves away because everything is not a 100% in their fantasy world makes me sick to the stomach. All this **** about families and wives not being settled as well...come on, ffs, get a grip. I find it unbelieavable that people like us believe this **** and sympathise with them. Anything negative they experience is nothing more than an inconvenience, its not life and death, nobody is going to die.

They're pampered premadonna's and they make me sick.

                    ****ing brilliant post.

last couple of days I've been really pissed off at the whole alonso masher summer long complaining marathon. xabihas paid his dues to liverpool football club and should leave on good terms with the fans. after all he's been away from his home for 5 seasons. eventually they all go back home. nobody should begrudge xabi this opportunity but masher is digging a big ****ing hole for himself.

hewas out of order today with some ofhis tackling in a place where we went to make friends not make ourselves look like bullies. if barcelona want him then they should put in an offer which we can't refuse. getting the player to make a ****ing tit ofhimself in public isn't really their style. that's what real madrid do.

The vast majority of people are just looking after themselves and their family first and foremost - why should footballers be any different? Just because they are rich doesn't mean that they are happy.

If they think they can improve their personal situations by moving to a different location then thats up to them in my opinion. Obviously I want us to hang on to our best players but if they want to go and the club want to cash in then thats life.

I agree that money is slowly ruining the game but I don't think that is the fault of the players.

FatTony - sorry to hear about your job situation, that really sucks and I hope you get something sorted out.

Problem is though they play on the fans feelings, "Oh I love this club", "I'd die for them" etc etc When in fact it's complete bollocks. I'd have far more respect for them if they basically weren't speaking out of both sides of their mouths.

Great post Tony. I totally agree with you. I don't worship any footballer but i respect only a few.

Football today is wrong on so many levels, I detest alot of it now. I love the game but things are way out of hand now. I don't understand how some people run after players begging for autographs and pictures, paying for signed shirts etc etc. Don't get it, I don't have the same respect or adoration for these players

Many think he's beyond reproach but, when Gerrard was out drinking after the Newcastle game, and behaving in a manner befitting a thug, did he think he may be about to ruin our greatest chance of winning the league in 20 years? Shouldn't he abstain from booze during the season and concentrate WHOLLY on playing football or are Liverpool just his employer?

They're all as bad as each other, in different ways but then you reap what you sow. Blame high wages, blame agents and blame Bosman

Sad news about the job tony. In my experience the people that get on in life - get the promotions, raises and respect in the workplace - are those that are aware of their importance to their company and are willing to take calculated risks to push for what they think they are worth.

It has always been a bugbear of mine but in this sense football is just like real life - just an exaggerated form of it. It doesn't make it anymore palatable but that's life. I agree it's ruining the game and perhaps this recession will level the field somwhat. This summer's crazy transfer window reeks of the death throes of a desperate animal trying to prove it has one more fight left in itself- trying to prove to itself and the world that it is mightier that it actually is.
