I'll miss him but I just can't accept anyone leaving our club, especially at such a crucial time in the development of the team.

I know it sounds petty but I hope he never wins another trophy.
    I love Sarah

A Liverpool legend that will be sorely missed. Gutted to see him go.

without a doubt one of the best liverpool players Ive ever seen. As Gerrard said himself, on his game he's unplayable. Always looked like he was two steps ahead of everyone else on the pitch. His first and last seasons, it was a priviledge watching him play. Oozed class. For the type of player he is, only Xavi could really be considered better than him, and even then, Alonso has a lot more steel about him.

He was one of our 6 world class players. Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano, Carragher, Reina and Alonso. We wont be able to replace him like for like. We will have to change our tactics as a result of this. The only positive I can take from him going is that we could replace him with a midfielder with a few more goals to his game. And hopefully we will have enough cash left over to bring in another world class player on top of Xabi's replacement.

        Its been a pleasure

Fantastic player, who's given me some fantastic memories. Watching him pass the ball was almost as thrilling as watching the goals at times. But he as also scored a few pearlers in his time too

          Sheer genius.

Looks like we got a good deal but still totally and completely absolutely ****ing gutted.

          Totally ****ing gutted.

Good luck anyways Xabi. If it was for personal reasons can only wish you the best.

              Dear Xabi,

Close the ****ing door on your way out son. I couldn't care less that you've left, sorry it had to come to this. If you don't think that playing for Liverpool is the greatest honour you could recieve then that's your loss fella.

I hope you fail in Madrid because maybe then you will realise what you have left behind, a support who backed you fully on the pitch, no matter how well you played and a support who ended up affording you the sort of worship that only home grown players and legends of the club get.

Be happy being a spare part in the Real Madrid shirt selling scheme.

FWIW I will give you a cheer should you ever return and thank you for the sterling service you gave to the club. I thank you for the five years you gave. And I see the reasons you left and bear no ill feeling towards you.

But you no longer mean anything to me.

              Adios

And I think he'll never feel the same experience than playing at a packed Anfield. Bernabeu despite it being a huge stadium, can be a ****ing dull place with fickle fans.

He'll only realise what he's lost when the season kicks in.

A club like Barca and Real are great to play for when all is going right. But when it goes wrong there is nowhere to hide and no support to rely on and pull you through.

And most importantly they're inferior clubs.

Some football fans are really pathetic and totally lack class. Xabi Alonso was one of the classiest players ever to play for this club particularly since 1990. He was a pure footballer; the composure, the passing, the vision, the intelligence, the workrate, the commitment on the field, the audacity of some of his shots - pure confidence in his own ability. Off the field he was quiet but always conducted himself with class. One of his recent quotes read

“When I was going through those moments of uncertainty a lot of fans supported me,” he said.

“They would say ‘we want you to stay, but at the end of the day, if you don’t, we wish you all the best and we are happy that you have been here’. I am very grateful for that. I am here now and very happy to be here. There is no other club like Liverpool.

“To feel Anfield on your back, the noise, it’s such a huge feeling, especially on the big nights.

“You’re automatically filled with that passionate energy and you always feel much better.

“It’s something Anfield provides more than any other stadium in the world.”

He knew exactly what the club meant.

Remember the goals from the half way line, his first at Anfield against Arsenal, his last against Hull and of course Istanbul - the pure joy he gave each and every one of us.

Just because footballers earn huge money does not mean they owe us fans anything apart from 100% on the pitch. They are human beings. Also, Xabi is Spanish. He came to a foreign country and made his name playing for Liverpool. He is now 28. It is the dream of any Spanish, English or Italian footballer to play at the highest level in their own domestic league. This is Xabi's last chance to do so. If any of you had played for Barcelona the last 5 years and had a chance to come to Liverpool for the last few years of your prime you would jump at it.

He has recently got married and had his first child. It is probable that he wants his child to grow up in his home country and start a home there with his wife. This doesn't mean that he's screwing over Liverpool and that he doesn't give a crap. Im sure it was a very difficult decision for him but also probably his only chance to move to one of Spain's top teams and be a key player for them and the timing in his personal life just happens to be perfect.

The commitment Xabi showed last year was outstanding after what had happened to him the summer beforehand. Many players would have gone through the motions but Xabi had his best season to date. Testament to his character.

I will miss seeing Xabi on the ball in the middle of the park. If he comes back to Anfield with Madrid, he should receive a huge ovation. Anyone who boo's is a fool and a disgrace to the club. Sickening to see people boo Voronin a year ago and booing Lucas last season. Disgusting. Best fans in the world my arse.

Xabi is just one player and will be replaced. Hopefully we will have a new hero to cheer on. There will be no problem moving on from this but it would be a crying shame for people to go around spouting abuse about him. The last 5 years have been great seeing Liverpool regain their place as one of the top sides in Europe and Xabi was at the centre of it all. While he was here he gave everything and gave us some great memories. Now he is gone. Thank you Xabi.

Of course Xabi will receive a huge ovation. He always (even during this acrimonious transfer saga) was dignity personified and I'm sure he'll never have a bad word about Liverpool. He's a fantastic professional and player no doubt and he will be sorely missed but I can't understand why someone would leave Liverpool.

I remember being very passionate about that when Stevie thought about leaving. No one should leave Liverpool as it's a player's ultimate club, the greatest club there is.

Of course we think that, we're Liverpool fans, but we have to accept the reality that not all players do.

Some do, i.e. Torres, but that's because he's also a fan himself as well as a player. But they're the exception.

For most of them it's just a great club to play at.
