    Christian Purslow

I have to say I am very impressed by this guy, the way he played hardball with Real and got the Aquiliani deal sorted so quickly

Would not have happened under Parry

Next is to get as much as possible off Carlsberg or a new sponsor

According to reports from Ballague, it was actually Rafa who was doing the negotiating.

Although, if Ballague is anything to go by, he probably also said that it could've possibly been someone else.

Purslow met Real's reps in Barcelona so surely he had a lot to do with it.

Rafa is telling Purslow what he wants and what he wants to Pay/Charge and Purslow is
going out and getting it done and doing a very good job at it imo.

Yep, Rafa has got more powers due to him signing that contract last season and he rules everything concerning player transfers now. Purslow would probably just sign the cheques.

It would appear that the Rafa/Purslow tandem works much smoother than the Rafa/Parry one.

Not meaning to belittle what effect Purslow has had but surely the good work was done when Alonso signed a new contract 2 years ago

Alonso was widely regarded to have been one of the top performers in the EPL last year.... the biggest league on the planet

He was wanted by a team whom has gone on an unprecedented purchasing program

Madrid were in massive need of a player in the Alonso mold to make their record transfers actual work

Madrid were under pressure to get more Spanish players

The new manger and technical director highlighted Alonso as their prime target

The president failed last time because he didn’t purchase the players Madrid needed but purchased marketable ones

Perez had to buy Alonso, I’m not saying we got a bad price or indeed that we never got a good one but that this will not be the most difficult piece of work the Rafa and Purslow will have to do

Parry wouldn't have allowed Alonso to go.. Sack Purslow

I think the business side of things is more efficient now.

It's maybe harsh on Parry etc but I feel like if we'd have kept the old structure we would have sold Alonso a fortnight ago for £25m and then spent £15m on Cattermole on deadline day.
