I agree with the general sentiments that Kuyt seems to be more of the "type of player" that Rafa would sign. We're also being "linked" with Klose who could be considered of that type as well.

There is a certain logic to trying to sign a hardworking, goalscoring, not particularly fast, teamworker to form a new strikeforce in compliment to Bellamy. Certainly Fowler & Crouch would prove useful if considered as cover or used in rotation rather than as, for example, Crouch's situation last year where we had little option but to play him for long stretches of time.

However, signing another striker should probably not be our priority at the moment, given that apart from Bellamy, Crouch & Fowler, we technically have Gonzalez, Kewell, Pongolle, Garcia & Mellor can all play as a striker (I'd mention Le Tellec but his squad number suggests little chance of hom getting a game this season).

Rather we are faced with ridiculously poor options for RM - Garcia who is often very poor there, Pongolle who has not impressed there at all or Gerrard, who if moved there reduces the central midfield options to Alonso, Sissoko & Zenden (which makes CM our supposedly strongest area an issue, imo).

we should be concentrating on getting that RM signed... I've actually stopped caring who it is... given that the only natural RM we've had since McManaman (who could play in many other positions as well) was Nunez.... frightening to think....

If we have the money for another striker... fine.... but I'd rather we spent that extra bit of cash and signed the RM.

Once that's achieved.... I'd take either Kuyt or Klose... and we delighted.

I think we are pertaining to the same point, in that, a good (or bad) World Cup doesn't provide a true reflection of a players ability.

And if I remember rightly, Diouf had only been named African Player of the year once, before he signed, he was named African Player of the year for second time soon after joining. Sorry to be pedantic
Can we get this right, we agreed to sign him prior to the world cup and the fee was agreed then we all sat down to watch the world cup and he had a great first game and we thought we had hit the Jackpot hindshight is a wonderful thing mmmmmmm

I would like to think along these lines

        Alves
Pennant signed as back up and that leaves a striker to sign

        Kuyt at 8m or

and here is the one that i hope has some sort of foundation and not just my wishfull thinking

        Villa for 18m

Then we have the squad complete

Aye that were Podolski who's gone to Bayern. Klose's still at Bremen. I'd love it if we nabbed him, he's just what we need.

Kuyt would be an excellent signing. He can score goals, assist and works hard for the team. He is the type of player RAFA likes. Sign him.
