Ta, assumed that would be the reason he wasn't involved.

            See this

Liverpool are close to signing 16-year-old Danish starlet Nikolaj Kohlert after the Esbjerg midfielder's agent announced he is meeting officials at Anfield to conclude negotiations.

The player, who has yet to play a senior match, would join the Liverpool academy if the transition goes smoothly.

His agent Allan Nielsen said: 'I can say as much as there will be a meeting in Liverpool today (Friday). The only thing remaining is the personal contract.

'I see no immediate problems in the clubs agreeing. This is a fantastic opportunity for a 16-year-old. He is ready both as a person and as a footballer. He will probably start in the academy on a scholarship before he turns 17.

'After that it will be the reserve team and then he will get a professional contract for three years with an additional option for Liverpool.'

                  Reds XI take on Thistle

A John McMahon managed Liverpool XI are in Scotland tonight as they take on Partick Thistle in Alan Archibald's testimonial.

The pre-season friendly at Firhill Stadium kicks-off at 7.45pm BST.

Liverpool have good relations with Partick Thistle because they are the club who sold us Alan Hansen for the bargain price of just £100,000 back in 1977.

Admission prices are adults £10, juniors aged 16 and under £5 and over 65s £5.

Spectators should pay at the turnstiles on the night and the North Stand at Firhill Stadium is reserved for Liverpool supporters.

"I look for players all over the world," he says.

"We are always watching videos, going to games and talking to our scouts.

It's a very busy job but Liverpool is a fantastic club and I'm delighted to be here.

"What do I look for in a player?

He has to have the right mentality.

I don't care what his name is or what reputation he has, it's how he acquits himself on the field which is the most important thing and whether he has the winning attitude that we are instilling in the squad.

"It's not a matter of quality.

There are lots of players with quality but if you want to win you have to have the right mentality."

Surely quality has to be pretty high up on the list, along with potential.

Nathan Eccleston was on the mark as a Liverpool XI drew 1-1 with Partick Thistle in a testimonial for Alan Archibald at Firhill Stadium on Tuesday night.

Fresh from signing a new contract Spanish starlet Daniel Pacheco lined up for John McMahon's side alongside Eccleston in attack, while Danish youngster Nicolaj Kohlert started in midfield.

Liverpool have good relations with Partick Thistle because they are the club who sold us Alan Hansen for the bargain price of just £100,000 back in 1977.

It was Pacheco who created the opening goal when his free-kick was met by the head of Eccleston who found the net in the 42nd minute.

The pair were always a real threat and Eccleston had earlier gone close before his opener.

The man who the night was all about Archibald left the field to a standing ovation after 63 minutes when he was replaced by Ian Maxwell.

The home side then equalised 18 minutes from time when Chris Erskine fired beyond the reach of Dean Bouzanis.

Liverpool XI: Dean Bouzanis, Stephen Darby, Steven Irwin, Robbie Threlfall (Jordy Brouwer 45), Chris Mavinga (Emmanuel Mendy 45), Nicolaj Kohlert, Daniel Pacheco, Andras Simon (Ryan Crowther 26), Nathan Eccleston, Vincent Weijl (Nikola Saric 58), Gerardo Bruna (Vitor Flora 58).

Well that was a waste of time. Its been a while since I last went to see scottish 2nd division standard football on a cold tuesday night but it brought back some memories. Depressing ones

To put it bluntly we were absolutely rubbish. We were barely able to string more than 3 passes together at a time. That could be something to do with not really wanting to be there and perhaps the fact that there is never a settled team, just always mixing players about. Or the fact that most of them aren't very good.

To the positives- Pacheco was a few classes above everyone else. He worked his socks off and clearly looked special. If he was developing in a team full of quality players then the moves that he tries to pull off would actually work. He worked his socks off all night too, never stopped running and fighting for the ball. His cross for the goal was awesome, one of those inswinging crosses that the defence cannot deal with ever.

Eccelston worked hard too and did okay. Threlfall and Mavinga did ok too.

However our midfield was practically invisible, saw nothing from them the whole game which is why the match was rubbish. We never controlled anything for even 5 minutes

Jordi Brouwer is the biggest waste of space ever. I have no idea what the club see in him. He is awful. Think he touched the ball about 4 times in 45 minutes

Vitor Flora did ok in the last 15 minutes or so but Brouwar (target man) couldnt really control his passes

Weijl got stretchered off by the way, looked in a lot of pain

For some reason we've been playing strikers in CM recently!
