An OPEN letter to Rafa Benitez

Football FanCast guest columnist Geoff Chambers writes an open letter to Rafa Benitez.

    Dear Rafa,

They say life is never easy at Liverpool but I reckon your patience has reached near breaking point in the past few weeks and the board's failure once again to back you in the transfer market. Whatever happened to the once reported £20-30m transfer kitty you were to have at your disposal, on top of what you were able to raise from transfer sales; has the wool been pulled over your eyes?

I feel for you in every respect, because if ever there was a summer where you needed the club to go that extra mile for you then this was it. Having secured our highest ever Premier League finish, knowing the fine line we are currently at, should have facilitated a conscious effort of the club to bridge that gap and see the club return to its rightful place at the top of English football. You have been afforded nothing and once again are being forced to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

It is an absolute disgrace, totally counterproductive and the logic behind it leaves me completely lost for words. If the rumours are true and you no longer have spent all that you can this summer then I believe we have jeopardised the best opportunity to win that elusive Premier League title as the squad is simply not strong enough. I'm guessing you know that, we certainly know it and should we fail to mount a decent challenge this season then I want you to know that it will be no fault of your own and firmly at the feet of the incompetent owners who, in my opinion, have failed you. They may have given you license over everything at the football club, but I'm guessing you would have given them all those privileges back for the sake of a budget that will allow you to put the finishing touches to this potential title winning squad.

Unfortunately Rafa, due to the hopeless PR at the club, we hear a lot of stories coming out and the possibility that you may be looking to relinquish your duties at the club, undoubtedly due to broken promises. I hope that doesn't prove the case and I want to assure you that the majority of support is right behind you and will totally understand the reasoning if we fall short this season. Our bench last Sunday shows how poorly equipped we are and how we simply have to rely on good fortune and players remaining injury free to have a chance of succeeding. You deserve better than this and hopefully you'll stand by us until such time new owners can come in and put us all out of our misery.

    Yours respectfully

    Geoff

The stuff about our bench last sunday, is a load of ****e.

We had five first team squad members out.

Agger (established international), Aquilani (established international), Riera (established international), Degen (established international), Aurelio (established international).

Throw them five in, and suddenly our bench looks perfectly sound.

Open letters are gay. (Not that there's anything wrong with gayness, or botty bashing, or whatever)

Agree with the sentiment of the letter but it's terribly written

He's still an international footballer. Much rather have degen on the bench than kelly.

So what, it doesn't mean he's any good. We could have the entire swiss squad and we'd be ****. Its pointless really, it better to talk of quality and the bench that day was sadly lacking.

yeah! all they do is like having sex with other open letters, like big letter orgies where like one of the envelopes are open to as many letters as possible!!! It's a gay fest I tell you - maaaadd!!

What is so gay about open letters? I mean this one is pretty crappy, but we as fans have gotten many great open letters from former players, where they gay as well?

It was lacking because we had five internationals out. Who'd have a strong bench in those circumstances?

You think Rafa actually reads these things anyway?
