Well now that you've changed your orginal statement from having to beat both Man Utd and Chelsea twice to us just beating Chelsea next weekend then yes, I'd agree with that.

Well in the immediate future, it's chelsea away. It's likely that we'll need something like 9-10 points from United and Chelsea this season to realistically win the title. Again, very difficult. The wins against Stoke & Hull have given us 4 more points than last season, 3 of which we surrendered at home to Villa.

i think people are blaming him for the floods in the Philipines, the global credit crunch and the Iranian Nuclear weapons programme.........

FFS everybody, lets row behind him......he's a liverpool player playing his bollox off - cut him some slack.........

Would love the Kop to sing a song about him, and belt it out like the Stevie song or Nando's one.

A lot of this is back and forth is a result of the people lavishing praise for ok and average performances and people being overly critical, the bottom line is Lucas is pretty average and in the essence of Lee Carsley "does a job", the self righteous nature of Lucas fans doesnt help though.

DWW your analysis based on highlights which to be fair you admitted, obviously is disregarded, Lucas was a disaster in the first half when he was meant to be the DM, postionally he was useless but did his usual person who links with simple passes role well.

Here is where the back and forth arguments begin, Lucas on the whole doesnt really do much, he links play but not with important or hollywood passes, plus he is not a goal scorer, this fuels both arguments, one he is not spectacular abut his job and doesnt really contribute in the final third and two he helps keep the centre neat and tidy.

My main gripe is not once in his Liverpool career has Lucas wowed me with a performance where I will turn and say he controlled the game or he was the driving force behind the win, whilst a lot of the rest of the team has done this. This will also bring in to argument our defenders and ask the question well they cant dominate a game or be the driving force behind a win, but they can by locking the door and keeping clean sheets, Lucas's job is nowhere near as important as this.

All these melodramatics above are a bit pathetic, and how has Lucas offered more than any other midfielder stop being a fool. YNWA Lucas - dont be a tit. As a supporter its your right to judge and this will always bring about extremes, get over it.

Where did you get that bizarre notion from? In the "Big 4" league we came top last year and Arsenal came second, so winning those games is not essential. I think it's more a confidence boost that comes from winning those games that makes them so important.

With regards to Chelsea and Man Utd I would say we would be in a decent position if we won both the home games and lost both away games. The games where you win the league have shifted in a major way to beating the lesser teams on a regular basis.

Having said all that, with Chelsea missing Cech this weekend and with us starting to pick up momentum a win away to Chelsea would fill everyone with confidence once again that we can win the league. Especially with Agger and Aquilani getting ever closer to entering the fray and a Torres bang in form.
                Forwards.......

I agree with those sentiments. I would add that lucas is not an average player, he is a good player. His only problem has been in replacing an excellent footballer, allied to the fact that his best attributes due not suit a pairing with Mascherano.

What we must all remember with Lucas is that he is still young and that he will improve. His best years are still some way off.

So whilst I am hoping that Aquilani and Mascherano live up to top billing and develop a strong partnership, I have seen signs this season that Lucas is an able deputy who can come in and do a job.

Are you saying that the team who wins the title needs to get 10 points from those games, or that Liverpool need to get 10 points to do so? Man Utd proved last year you don't need 10 points from LFC and CFC to win the league, so why must LFC get that amount?

If that is because you'll think we'll not clean up against the other teams then fair enough. As dww pointed out in another thread we've yet to come up against a strong opponent since getting back on track so I'll reserve judgement on what we need to do. But on the evidence so far I would say that I favour us to not draw as many this year.

For my money we'll do better against the lesser sides, and worse against the top teams when the games are won in midfield.

Very well said. The boy has plenty of potential and will only get better as you say.

I do feel that that Lucas, Mascherano and Aquilani might be rotated regularly though, rather than a first two with Lucas in reserve. Guess we won't know until Aquilani is fully fit.

Sunday will be a massive test for Lucas. I doubt he'll face a better midfield for the rest of the season. If he performs at Stamford Bridge and we take something away from the game, surely even the most ardent Lucas haters will give him a break for a while.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

God, you are so predictable, I knew you would have to mention something about that. Believe it or not I have spoke to numerous people who have claimed to HATE Lucas. Even though you think you know everything (until you contradict yourself when proven wrong), I would hope that I would have have a slight edge on my own personal conversations. Perhaps not.
