I said this after the spurs game, we just don't look 'flexible' or capable of changing things on the pitch, and then you look to the bench for inspiration and it is well what the ****!
A few early random observations after the first three games
Tactics
I like the 4-2-3-1 formation, but u need to be able to adjust now and then. United and Chelsea do it - if thinks aren't happening, they seem to seamlessly adjust personal on the pitch for 10-20 mins and see what happens - we seem too rigid in our setup, when it clicks no problems, when it doesn't we look ****ed for ideas until the last 10 mins when we seem to go gung ho and lob on the two most ineffective players i have seen in voronin and babel.
I am trying hard to not have a go at lucas here, but you look at the two holding midfielders, and neither offer anything offensively - not a goal threat or danger of either getting a lucky deflection from decent strike, or through ball that puts torres away. - It just looks flat...........so you have to ask why we have the two of them! - well mascher has excellent work rate, is a good committed tackler, and is superb at breaking up counter attacks, sound! - lucas.....er well at best he is neat and tidy and can take a touch and pop the ball 4 yards sideways to a player in space.
This is fair enough in tough game away from home or europe when teams seem to give you a bit more space - i would like to see us be a little bit more adventurous at home - go 4-3-3 with mascher in the middle with gerrard and say kuyt - then play torres with benayoun and another (thats a prob though who?) haha - not saying thats the answer, i am not an expert but we need some other options or system to have to blow away the other team and keep them on the back foot for 90 mins
Defending set pieces - this has ****ed me off for some time now, forget about this zonal arguement! - what really does my head in is - we are the only ****ing team at any level of the game from premier league to Sunday league that have every single player defending in the box every single time!!! Why? - it's not like we never ever concede from set pieces, if we never did concede then well fair enough - but we have 11 men in the box and still ship goals from set pieces. I have always understood brining the likes of crouch or now, torres, back for their aerial ability - but why can't we say right, yossi - it's 2 mins in to the game at home - 0-0, yossi stay on the halfway and look to break.
The players
Gerrard just looked lost, his lunge was ****ing stupid, torres was isolated, again mentioned this against spurs, it doesn't matter how good torres is, when against two to three fit and strong defenders who only have to worry about torres the defenders are made up - one just smothers him, the other looks for any loose balls, he needs some support from somewhere, or we need to make the defenders worry and panic a bit about something else
Benayoun - I really like him at the mo, we need to try and get him in space and get the ball too his feet..
Kuyt - Well he has improved some of the basics that he has taken stick for, and the sheer work rate is enough to keep him in
Johnson - looks a star and complements kuyt down the right
Insua - young lad settling well, no real complaints for him
Carra and Skrtel - can't argue with either as defenders, brave, committed and tough as nails - do feel we miss the threat from agger coming over the half way line though.
Reina - best keeper in the league by a mile - fit, strong, athletic, confident, brave, great shot stopper, great reflexes
Aquliani - feel sorry for this lad, because he needs to be a ****ing world beater and settle immediatley
The bench/rest of squad - er.....nevermind
Off the pitch
What a shambles - Rafa i feel sorry for, i really do like him, he makes mistakes, can be stubborn and yes pisses me off at times but i do have faith in him - but i worry, he is under constant pressure from the ****ing media, he obv doesn't get on with the owners and right now it's the love of the fans that has kept in going.......but another few performances like that and it will soon turn.....once the yanks reckon he has 'lost' the fans they will strike - it's a major worry because for whatever complaints people mayy have about rafa on the pitch, off the pitch he is the only person I trust who has liverpool football club and it's fans best interests at heart.
The yanks - just **** off, since day one of your takeover Liverpool football club has just become one huge, embarrasing joke of a drama. Have the grace and the ****ing balls to say "listen people, we are sorry, we ****ed up, we didn't realise what was required financially and more importantly morally to own such a huge and famous club - we underestimated it's meaning to so many - we tried our best, but we admit we ****ed up, we hope u remember the few good things we gave - torres etc and somehow forgive us for all the ****e, and we are selling up to and will try and find someone worthy of owning this club"
AHhhhh thats better - knee jerk rant done
