    The Mugging Of Fernando Torres

I have been reading several comments on this site calling Torres "**** so far this season" and complaining that he has been spending his time arguing calls and not focusing on scoring. And then I watched him against Villa, stiches above his eye, a deep bruise below it, his shirt torn and being kicked all over the park. And not getting calls.

I have to say, I am as furious as he is, and I'm not even on the receiving end of those blows. It seems to me that refs are more inclined to call fouls when a player near the box bundles over in a heap when his feet get tangled than they are when a player drives his elbow through the back of our striker's head.

The foul by Lucas that lead to Villa's opening goal? Not even close compared to the absolute **** kicking that Torres is taking at the hands of defenders this year. I can understand why he's pissed; his being taken out of the game and not being protected by the refs. sure, he could shut up and get on with it, but I feel he deserves better. In the same way refs never gave Peter Crouch a 50-/50 ball when he played for us because they seemed to never understand how to deal with his height, Torres can't buy a call when he is being brutalized.

I hope that he turns it on and uses this an incentive to score bundles, but I also wish we had more steel in the team to get in the mix and show some passion in backing him up; only Mascherano seems to be willing to fight back. For me, this is the main source of my early season frustration with this team-- only a couple of players seem to have any fire (Torres and Mascherano) and while I don't want the team to turn into something akin to the Italian national team (surrounding the ref, constantly arguing), Gerrard needs to get some of his old mean streak back and Captain this side with some passion.

Bolton, physical and boring, promises more of the same. I hope we step up, get tough and fight from this point on.

    You misspelt Manchester United.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Toughening up is one thing and he's adapting to this side of the game brilliantly but he should focus on scoring and playing well rather than arguing with players and referees, especially the latter for not protecting him.

Do you not agree that he is not being protected properly? A foul is a foul and they should all be called, end of. Especially with the ticky-tack bull**** that gets called against us so often, I can see why he would lose his temper... I lose mine!

Of course I agree but he's paid to score goals and not to complain. It was bound to happen anyway, because defenders in general were at a loss trying to cope with him. Those tackles won't go away and English referees are notorious for turning a blind eye to those kind of challenges. He should rise above it.

I don't think he's been abused as such. The black eye was as accident.

He should bully defenders back. Give them a bit of a kicking especially from the start. It will signal his intentions to the defenders and might earn him some yards.

This is his third season in the premier league. He's had the same treatment he is getting now since day one.

He got booted pillor to post against Reading once and got a hat trick. I think he just lacks match fitness and is frustrated at a lack of support from Gerrard.
                Forwards.......

Agreed. He shouldn't expect less from defenders and he should brush it off by playing football and scoring goals, not spending energy on pointless remonstrance to the referee.

3 starts and 2 goals - nothing to see here. Carry on Fernando.

I agree mate. Maybe we see things through red-tinted glasses, but I never saw Ronaldo getting this sort of treatment game in, game out. No-one does except Fernando. It's a ****ing joke. He has the **** booted out of him every single game. I'd lose focus too. I do think he needs to try harder to keep a lid on it - when he first signed he ignored it all, maybe responded in kind...but never lost his rag all the time like this.

its not that torres has been **** it has more to do with no service, usual knee jerk reaction onhere, looking for people to blame, I wonder whether most peole on here actually support LFC the way they go on. He has 2 goals from 3 games hardly **** is it, his record speaks for itself and he has been gettin a rough ride from the refs he has a rite to be annoyed the way he has been treated but he does have to try and retain some focus I do thik he is becoming to involved in his own little wars on the pitch rather than concentrating on scoring, but he is a world class player and needs to deal with that and not let it bother him.

torres should learn how to dive properly...it would help in giving defenders a second thought with rough challenges and get us more freekicks. helps alot if hes being marked out of the game.

definetely need to learn how to dive.
