Alberto Aquilani has today handed Rafael Benitez a major fitness boost by stepping up his rehabilitation from an ankle injury.
The summer signing is now running at Melwood - though the boss is refusing to put a timetable on his return despite newspaper reports this morning suggesting he could make his debut in mid-October.

Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "He's going forward, progressing and today he started running. If that goes okay then everything will go a bit faster.

"We have not set a target or any time, but he's doing well."

and to think, Roma would have had him playing well before now.
No wonder his injuries took a battering.

Can't wait to see this lad play in a red shirt.

Alberto Aquilani is hoping to put his injury problems behind him at Liverpool after blaming Roma for his spate of injuries.

The Italian international has yet to feature for Liverpool since joining from Roma after undergoing ankle surgery before his switch to England.

The 25-year-old saw his time at Roma blighted by a number of injury problems and he feels the Serie A side's medical staff failed to look after his fitness properly.

Aquilani, who could be in line for his debut against Sunderland after the international break, is happy with how his treatment is going at Liverpool and is confident of finally overcoming his long-standing injury worries.

"They were always changing doctors over there and there was no continuity but I have already noticed a big difference here," Aquilani told the Daily Mail.

"From the outset they told me they would not try and rush me back because they did not want to risk a recurrence of the problem.

"I want to put all my injury worries behind me. After spending some time with Liverpool's medical team I feel I can do that now."

Well apparently one of the reasons he was injured a lot at Roma was due to being rushed back too early from injury.

I want to see the guy play but I want him 100% fit too.

We didn't do too well with Kewell and Agger mind.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."
