I did mention earlier in the thread that everyone has the right to voice their opinion but Mark Bright is an absolutely clueless cunt! I have never heard so much drivel spew forth from anyones mouth as i have when he is commentating on a match.

England have an important match coming up and for once are playing pretty well but that's not good enough for some of our pundits....no they have to pick on somebody and try and ruin the confidence of an upcoming international player. So who would he play - Gary fricking Neville?? ****.

But so far Johnson has not had to defend for any extended periods and has of yet not proven either way that he will be able too. It's been the same case for England, when attacking he looks great and runs rampant against teams who England keep pushed back. But when we played Holland and came under the cosh at time he did struggle, hence all the flack he got after the game.

It will be very interesting to see how he copes agaisnt Chelsea when he comes up against Cole. The chavs are slightly similar to us in that all their width comes from the full back positions and the fyll backs who come out on top will have a huge bearing on the result IMO. Insua/Aurelio v Bosingwa will als be interesting.

What ever happens I think Johnson will improve as the season goes on. He was compared to Cole, a player who used to get the same sort of stick, great going forward but weak at the back. It wasn't until he had a fantastic Euro 2004 that the critics finally shut up and realised he was also a top class defender.

For me, Johnson still has it all to prove, but I remain convinced that he will prove the doubters wrong come the seasons end.
The difference with Johnson playing for England and Liverpool is that with Liverpool Kuyt drops back to add support when a team attacks down our right flank. Liverpool's players on both wings attack and defend in tandem, making us more effective as a unit when going forward or defending.

For England however Johnson has the likes of Lennon or Wright-Phillips (and when he's really unlucky, Beckham - sorry "Becks") ahead of him. When the opposition puts pressure on that side the RM of the day is usually to be found on the half-way line pondering the meaning of life. On the left however, Cole has the assistance of Gerrard working his knackers off in front of him and he's no stranger to funnelling back to help the team.

As an aside, I find it just a little annoying that when Benitez plays Gerrard wide, the media use this to illustrate his sheer incompetence at wasting Gerrard's ability in the centre - his best position, apparently. However when England shunt him out wide to accommodate lesser players like Lampard - the king of the 10-yard sideways pass - it's a Capello masterstroke and nobody seems to mind too much. It's a funny old game isn't it?

Seems like any pundit who criticises any aspect of any of our players or club, is a 'cunt'.
Do you consider yourself to be a pundit in this equation? Just asking like.

Former Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday striker Mark Bright has launched a stinging attack on Liverpool and England right-back Glen Johnson, claiming his defensive shortcomings could cost the Three Lions the World Cup next summer.

The former West Ham and Chelsea defender has improved immeasurably since joining Portsmouth in 2006, where his consistently impressive form earned him a big money move to Liverpool and regular spot in Fabio Capello's starting XI.

However, BBC pundit Bright - who made more than 200 league appearances for Palace from 1986-92 - believes the full-back is the weak link in the Italian's side, a point he says was proved last weekend when Johnson was partly at fault for Slovenia's late goal in England's 2-1 win at Wembley.

"This summer Liverpool paid £18 million to Portsmouth for Glen Johnson but come next July he could just cost England the World Cup," he told Metro.

"Going forward he is great but as a defender he gets beaten too easily.

"Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho thought Johnson would let him down against top-class *opposition, At the moment, he looks to be right although i do think what Tony Cascarino said was wrong, that guy is definitely a cunt"

"Slovenia were modest opponents at Wembley last weekend but it was *amazing how easily Johnson was *beaten and Slovenia's goal came from his poor defending.

"If England are going to win the World Cup we need a rock-solid defence.

"Fabio Capello says Johnson is one of the best right-backs in the world and he has the talent to be the best if he *improves the defensive side of his game."
I'd like to point out at this point that the dullard Mark Bright confidently predicted that, after Liverpool signed Torres, he would be outscored by the megastar that is Darren Bent in the league, because it was obvious that Torres wouldn't be up to the physical demands of the English game. Sums him up really.

And for what it's worth England don't have the remotest chance of winning the World Cup, with or without Johnson, so his comments are based on a false premise anyway

So did a fair few people on here though.

Considers digging up that thread. Again.

This scapegoating is pathetic, even worse than me calling Lucas **** after every game we don't win. Making him a scapegoat for something that hasn't even happened yet is taking the piss.

Absolutely right. Mark Bright is a complete idiot. I cringe when listening to him, he's that bad. Not got a clue how he managed to land himself a job with the bbc

Redspin just covered exactly what I thought when Johnson had a 'bad' day against Slovenia. The first thing that came to my mind was where were Kuyt and Mascherano? Then I remembered they aren't English.

We should fuel, not douse, this flaming of Johnson for England. The more sheep believe it the better as he'll be dropped from the team if not the squad. Unfortunately, Capello is an intelligent man much like Rafa and can see exactly why Johnson is a world class full back. Shame for us really.

Is he with the BBC now? Oh Lord, its bad enough with his clueless Metro column. Hey ho, more reason to not watch MOTD ever again (Football First is more than enough nowadays anyway).

I have heard him commentating for the BBC and doing some small programmes for them and I think he was on MOTD once but they wouldn't let him on MOTD again no way.

I remember Hansen giving Bright funny looks while he was spouting his ****e. Hansen put him straight and he wasn't allowed back on again. IIRC
