    Anfield Museum and Stadium Tour

Having been making the journey from London to Liverpool, and back the same day for 5 years now, I finally decided to stay up there after the dreadful blackburn game, and booked a museum and stadium tour for yesterday.

I was hoping to end a dreadful LFC weekend off on a high, so went with high expectations.

I must say that i was shocked, and incredibly disappointed with the Museum and Stadium Tour.

The Museum is tiny, and they have done nothing to try and capture the history of the club properly. You see some player/manager profiles, the trophies and that's it. I was expecting to spend hours there, but that is not possible.

So onto the stadium tour....it started at the Player's entrance and into the home dressing room, then down the tunnel to the dugout. That first part was really cool.

We were however not allowed on the pitch, and then walked to the Kop (where I have sat many many times).....and that was it - end of stadium tour. I asked whether we'd go up to any suites, the directors box and lounge, the media section....anser No

Having done the Barcelona tour and museum I was really fecked off at the way we do things.
I was expecting so much more!

Anyway to compound this 'uneventful' weekend the drive back to london was a disaster - the M1 roadworks between J11 and J10 are a nightmare and added 90 minutes onto the stop / start journey!

I think the tour is good. Noone is allowed on the pitch. Hardly that big a deal.

Yeah I thought not being allowed onthe pitch is fair enough, as it would take its toll given time.
As for the tour?, ive never taken any other stadium tour, but was expecting a little more. But still enjoyed it.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

      * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

The only other stadium tour I have had was at the Nou Camp. Unbelievable. They took us around absolutely everywhere, except the home dressing room.
It was an unbelievable tour, and their museum is brilliant

As for the Anfield Stadium tour, I think it is good for a non-fan as it gives a brief history of the club and some other points....all of which I already knew!

The museum at the new stadium will be modelled on the one at the Nou Camp according to Mr Parry.
          Oh I don't know.

I must agree that the stadium tour at Anfield isn't up to standard with the other two tours I've been on - the Nou Camp and the Millennium Stadium.

The other two stadiums were much better where they take you up to the very top of the stands and the suites also.

The trophy room at Barca is fantastic also, although it includes the trophies of all the teams including other sports.

Anfield isnt as big as the grounds mentioned so its just a matter of space. Im sure if they had more space they could easily fill it. Also, I dont see much point in going right around the ground to look at a suite/function room. Surely all people who've come a long way want to see is what the tour takes them on?

I'm not slatting the Anfield tour - I thoroughly enjoyed it when I went a few years ago, but having the opportunity to go to the suites and see the ground from high up made it al the more impressive in the other two stadiums.

I also know it's difficult to compare Anfield to the other two I visited due to the size in comparison.

I thought the tour was good. I agree with the museum, it looks a bit tatty and dated. The sound exhibits didn't work either. It's again a question of poor marketing by the club I'm afraid as it obviously isn't funded as well as it might be. The curator/historian that runs it is a top bloke though.

On a plus point my partner had to take her nephews round stamford bridge. She isn't a football fan and has no axe to grind. She said they were horribly arrogant and the tour was a rip off

I've not done the stadium tour only the museum. While not exactly great it's nice to see all the silverware. I'd guess that there will be a bigger museum in the new stadium.

I enjoyed the stadium tour and museum. Its worth it just to go down the tunnel and touch the "This Is Anfield" sign.
As its been pointed out the museum tour at the Nou Camp is fantastic, but I had a laugh to myself when our tour guide when I was there said they would now show us the most special thing at the club.......and low and behold there was their one and only (at the time) replica European Cup for their 1992 win!!
Bloke beside me couldn't resist it and told the tour guide and assembled tour that we had 5 of those back at Anfield!!! Big club....pah!!!

Having been to both the Anfield museum (last year) and the one at Camp Nou (2003), I have to say that I liked the one at Anfield most. I might be a bit biased, but I thought the Barca museum was a bit boring. It was spacey, nice and with lots of items, but there was an awful lot of non-football related items, and it was too 'polished'. The Anfield museum is much better regarding atmosphere, and I think it has many interesting items from both old times and more recent. And of course the big 5.... I also understand they have a lot of items they can't display because of the space, but that will be better at the new stadium.

When I took the tour 8-9 years ago, we actually started in one of the suites in the Centenary stand, so why they don't show that now I can't understand. Anyway, I think it was great.
