Coulda woulda shoulda.Originally posted by PC Plod View PostThe same gearing could have been done by Moores to get us the players- and we wouldnt have had the purchase debt on the club. Any further leveraging could have been used to help us with the stadium as-per the Gooners.
Fact is we weren't in with a chance until the yanks came in and actually backed rafa on the market.
If Moores could or couldn't have is irrelevant as he didn't.
Taking this summer as an example is a bit skewed, unless you look at it in perspective.
Of the "big 4" we spent the 2nd most net (and unsure on that as I can't really remember who Chelsea sold) and the most gross. It's a sign of the current climate economical and football wise, not really a pointer at the owners.
Pointing at the owners just fits in with an (understandable) under current.

We're all entitled to an opinion, even those of us who have our own
And as I say, not really behind them anyway's, just the best option there is at the moment so better to just get on and make the best of it until a better option comes along.
It's not like it's achieving anything or there's any ultimate aim even if it does.
Just a vague plan to force 'em out and then..........?????????Last edited by EwarWoo; 03-09-09, 12:48 PM.

I'm not really diasgreeing with your above comments though am I? Obviously, Moores was also acutely aware of everything you've said, hence sanctioned the sale. (Originally posted by EwarWoo View PostCoulda woulda shoulda.

However, if we cant discuss hypotetical situations, then we cannot put the Yanks in perspective either can we? They are owners after all (sadly) & not allowing any discussion of other eventualities kinda defeats the point of a talkboard.
Whilst you are quick to point out the economic realities of the wider markets, you also seem to lend no value to the increase in TV revenue which is very large off-setting factor.
You are right of course, that we are competing in the short term as well as -if not better than- we ever have of late. However, we might well see that that is at serious medium to long term cost. Certainly the realities point to that as present. Remember, we are driven in no small part by 2 players who are at the very top of football, with market values of around £50m-60m as present. One of those came through our academy, one of which we managed to grab for about 1/3 of his current value.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Agreed, there is no better option at the mo.Originally posted by EwarWoo View PostWe're all entitled to an opinion, even those of us who have our own

Retrospectively (if i may
), selling some of the club to the fans rights-issue style to fund further transfers the stadium & corporate sponsoring the stadium would have been the way to go. Obviously increasing commercial revenue would have been required too, but the old regime really struggled there.
3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I'm far from keen on the yanks but (a) they've increased our revenue, and (b) made us more professional off the pitch. Unless there's an alternative to "yanks out, no idea who I want in" these 2 jokers are at least moving us forward.
Give me an alternative instead of trying to get me to sing a bit more at the match, and don't go on about DIC as (a) no-one knows their intentions to buy or not and (b) last time they tried to buy us they apparently wanted to sell us on within a few years for profit which doesn't sound like someone with the interests of the club at heart

Well, the reason I see no point in discussing it is there is evidence that he wouldn't back Rafa in the market on big purchases (he didn't).Originally posted by PC Plod View PostHowever, if we cant discuss hypotetical situations, then we cannot put the Yanks in perspective either can we? Which apply equally to the rest of the top 4 who we've out spent. It's just a **** year all round is all I'm saying. Not just for us.Originally posted by PC Plod View PostWhilst you are quick to point out the economic realities of the wider markets, you also seem to lend no value to the increase in TV revenue which is very large off-setting factor.
Debt to revenue wise I believe we're equal with united and better off than Chelsea or Arsenal. So we won't go down alone and therefore may stay in it anyway by default if the portents of doom are correct.Originally posted by PC Plod View PostHowever, we might well see that that is at serious medium to long term cost. Not sure all that crap in the press makes us more professional off the pitch, but I know what you mean business-wise. Out of interest, does anyone have an idea as to what measures theyve taken to increase revenue & how successful these have been? It is hard to divorce shirt sales & that kinda stuff with recent on the pitch achievements.Originally posted by redstaralex View PostI'm far from keen on the yanks but (a) they've increased our revenue, and (b) made us more professional off the pitch. Agree singing isnt gonna achieve anything other than to show ill feeling. Cannot think of anything that is. As far as DIC are concerned, that has been & looong gone, altho I would suggest any decent business plan would have an exit strategy & a potential to sell us on at a profit doesnt necessarilt mean bed news for the club.3rd place. Realistically, the only way the current owners will leave will be because someone meets their current asking price.
Of course, if in the future the club fails, they will look for an out, but that will severly cripple them financially, so running the club into the ground, or a fan boycott, will serve no purpose but to be detrimental to the LFC on the whole...administration and relegation are not desired.

Well, the reason I see no point in discussing it is there is evidence that he wouldn't back Rafa in the market on big purchases (he didn't).
Perhaps because the funds simply werent there. Increased success over the last couple of years plus increased telly money might well have made him less risk-adverse. GH got his fair share to spend after all- not up there with the Scum, but better than Rafa proportionally.

Aye

Thing is tho mate that the Scum & Gooners already have their stadiums- we have yet to even "put a spade in the ground". (What did happened to those NWDA & European grants btw?). The Yanks or any new owners would need to take on a load more debt to get us level with them on that playing field. The Chavs & Citeh are exceptional circumstances of course.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

True, and their asking price is unrealistic, is it is not gonna happen.Originally posted by Scratch View PostRealistically, the only way the current owners will leave will be because someone meets their current asking price.

I think that if the Kop were to chant that for a good portion of the game that it would do emence damage to them, No way will thay want to hold on to a club where the fans sing loud a d clear against them with the worlds tv audience watching, at the very leas it will force them into trying to shut the fans up, and that would mean doing what we want. I myself think its a great idea, but the timinh of the chatn has to be right, Maybe the first 5 mins of each half or if we are 3 goals up, and the rest should be supporting the players/team chants.

A mosiac Would be miles better than chanting....
