We have spent zero this summer NETT

We have seen TV revenue increase by circa £10 million plus any minor endorsements we have achieved

Add that up thats £35 million minimum we should have but apparently we dont

If the Premier League (and for that matter UEFA saying clubs have to be debt free by 2012 unless its linked to tangible assetts like stadia etc) are serious about that statement then we are in big trouble because yes we have huge debts accumulated by the owners to pay for their purchase of the club

Either way we are in for lean times in the transfer market it appears

I will admit I'm anti the current ownership, I think at best their business plan was pretty high risk

Too many factors have gone against them imo and the rules changes proposed by UEFA & the Premier League only heap more problems on them

Unfortunately its the club that will suffer in the long term and not them
Hence the 3 year 2012 exit strategy mentioned in the picture above???

Liverpool's record sponsorship agreement with Standard Chartered sparked scenes of jubilation in the leading bank's branches across the globe.
It was announced earlier this week that Standard Chartered had signed a four-year deal to become Liverpool Football Club's main sponsors from the start of next season - and while this exciting new partnership was being officially announced on Mersyside, press conferences were also taking place around the world to reveal details of the best deal of its kind in football.

This is how the news was greeted by some of Standard's Chartered 70,000 staff in their own countries.

That's pretty bizarre. I like the one from Pakistan where the only thing big enough to notice is the carlsberg logo!

DLA leads on Standard Chartered‘s £80m Liverpool sponsorship deal

DLA Piper and Harbottle & Lewis have landed lead roles advising on a new £80m sponsorship agreement between Standard Chartered Bank and Liverpool Football Club.

The new deal will see Standard Chartered become Liverpool’s official sponsor for four years, starting in July 2010.

DLA Piper was drafted in to advise longstanding client Liverpool, with local technology, media and commercial partner Sarah Bell taking the lead role.

The deal is the latest in a string of instructions the law firm has been handed by the club, including a 2007 mandate when it was taken over by US investors George Gillett and Tom Hicks through acquisition vehicle Kop Football.

Harbottle stepped in to advise Standard Chartered on the agreement, with sports law head Bob Mitchell at the helm in London.

The firm worked alongside the bank’s in-house team led by intellectual property lawyer Mark Thomas.

The deal, which represents Standard Chartered’s biggest sports sponsorship arrangement to date, sees the bank succeed Carlsberg as Liverpool’s shirt sponsor. Carlsberg, which has a 17-year relationship with Liverpool, will remain a key sponsor of the club.

DLA Piper’s Bell said: “This is an excellent deal for [Liverpool FC] and shows how the club is positioning itself in the commercial market.”

Liverpool’s sponsorship deal comes more than a year after the club agreed a £350m refinancing, which handed roles to US duo Weil Gotshal & Manges and Winston & Strawn. Weil advised Kop Football, with Winston advising Gillett. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised the lending banks.

The deal was signed weeks after Brit Insurance sealed a four-year deal to replace Vodafone as the new sponsor of the England and Wales Cricket Board. Hammonds picked up the lead role for the insurer, while boutique firm Outside Law advised the England Cricket Board
