Rafa game no. 300 in charge

    RAFA SET FOR MANAGERIAL LANDMARK
    Jimmy Rice 15 September 2009
Rafa Benitez will take charge of Liverpool for the 300th time on Wednesday - joining a select band of managers to reach the milestone at Anfield.

Hungarian champions Debreceni provide the opposition as the Spaniard becomes only the eighth man to write his name in this particular section of the LFC history books.

Impressively, Benitez has the second best win ratio on the list - trumping legends like Bill Shankly.

The gaffer is level alongside the great Bob Paisley with a 57 per cent winning record.

Just one man can boast a better statistic than this - Kenny Dalglish. The King won 61 per cent of the games during a six-year stint in the hotseat.

Here are the eight men to reach 300 games at Anfield: Dalglish (61 per cent), Paisley (57 per cent), Benitez (57 per cent), Shankly (52 per cent), Gerard Houllier (51 per cent), Tom Watson (44 per cent), Kay (40 per cent), George Patterson (37 per cent).

    Rafa!

And incredibly he hasn't won the premiership with that statistic - says a lot about the thoughness of the competition in the premiership these days!

        Er, is that a confession?
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Although I found your original post quite strange, I think you’ll find Xabi and Garcia played a small part in that success, not to mention Rafa reinventing Carra in CB.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

So Rafa did it with someone else's team, without having had the time to mould the team the way he wanted it. Pretty impressive really.

Dont be pedantic Craig, you know exactly what I mean. The team was 90% Houlliers with Rafas tactics (eventually, he got them right). My point is Rafa has actually won very little with HIS players, ones he chose. This is not a bitch at Rafa, just an observation.

It's fine margins. We completely fluked the Champions League that year. We were lucky to get out of the group stages and Milan were a far superior team to us.

2 years later with 'Rafa's team' we coasted to the final (bar Chelsea) and arguably deserved to win, and maybe would have if it wasn’t for a fortuitous deflection.

True, but you're not really making a very good point. The reason I say this is because I know you will agree with me when I say the team we have now, both first XI and squad, is better than the team of 2004-2005.

So we have progressed under Rafa. I think the best barometer for success is the league and we have improved in that sense. That despite there now being much improved competition in the league.
