    We will agree to disagree.
I don't mind debating it, it's just a case of people's views differing....Gillett lied about the debt on the club, but then i never actually bought that anyway...but that was in the past, and i won't dwell on it, cos i can see the club moving forwards...we're marketed better, we have a strong squad, the acadamy and reserves have been brought into line with the club, and we have reached a point where instead of buying in bulk, we are hand-picking players...this window is the first where we have no spent properly, but have still bought two expensive players, improved the contracts of key performers and Rafa actually is smiling now and enjoying a working relationship with that Purslow fella.

You think we're moving backwards, i think we're moving forwards, but in the end, it's results on the pitch that will count, and 5 games into the season, it's too early to judge.

I don't like the Yanks but I think some views are incorrect on here. I think the reason are budget was so ****ed this year was because the debt had to be re financed and heavily reduced. I don't think that is the case next summer so we will have a set transfer budget that I think will be fairly decent, depending on Champions League and Premiership success as always.

On Mascherano, I don't think Rafa will be forced to sell any player, but of course like the sale of Alonso, he may consider that to increase the funds available to him.
          Forwards.......

And/or Mascherno might just want to leave.

I'm resigned to him going. With the tax situation I can't see us being able to pay him enough to change his mind.

He may. But my responce was to those who will think he will leave because of lack of funding. If he wants to leave that has nothing to do with the Yanks or Rafa.
                Forwards.......

Was there not talk that RBS insisted the money came from the assets of G/H themselves, or was that just internet gossip?

I personally think the spending was reduced this year because the clubs were aware of the new PL regulations that will be coming in 2010, regarding financing and player purchasing.

Well, so long as we pay in full, we'll be alright ...think the new regs relate to owing money to clubs for players...not that you can't do it obviously, cos most deals are structured, but that you can't owe more than you are able to pay off.

They've taken a loan to buy the club, so it makes sense that the club's revenues are paying for it. Can't understand some of your logic.

Well said! i agree we are moving forward. For once dumb and dumber are doing well. They are stabilising are future with such market sponsorships. I recall Hicks and Gillette saying we want to have the same market value, if not better than scum. They have proven in the last couple of days, that they are/will keep their promise on this. Its nice to see them doing some thing positive for the club. However, we will know the true story next summer when we can have a real go at spending again. (January spend is not worth mentioning as it is hard to by then for the obvious reasons!)

If we were looking at the new rules surely we would have been looking for good players who would qualify now instead of waiting until next summer. As we'd be in a stronger negotiating position as we'd still have time to go elsewhere
