That's bollocks. A player's worth is equal to the money any club is willing to pay for him. Ronaldo was sold for £80m and there was one suitor, crazy or not. They had £80m allegedly in the bank to find a world class replacement, and according to plenty on here, Benzema is one. So why bulk at the asking price when they had the money???Originally posted by Pacman View PostRubbish.
United wanted Benezma but they didn't value him at 42mil, the market is crazy so they signed Owen.
Owen himself stated that Fergie told him he would only be signed if United didn't sign Benezma.
If the price was right United would have bid for Benezma the money was there they just didn't think he was worth what was being quoted.
There's more than meets the eye in everything you read in the newspapers. But whatever suits your agenda, you'll settle for something to believe in to push your case. The Americans isn't high on your list, so it's easy to bash them.

It's not protecting anyone, it's appeasing their fans...yeah, we had the money, don't worry, we just didn't feel the player was worth it...yeah, we believe you Mr Ferguson...Originally posted by Pacman View PostThat is all very cloak and dagger.
Why would Fergie want to protect anyone? Maybe just maybe both Fergie and Owen were telling the truth.
Not got a link, i read it on here, or on Rawk, at the time of the deals. No idea where it came from tho.

So you think just because United have sold one player for 80mil (the world player of the year) they should sign another less proven player for the same price or if not the same price for an amount of money which they think he isn't worth?
Yeah right Fredo come on mate.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

Or maybe United have the cash and are being sensible considering clubs like City have paid way over the odds for players like Lescott thus making the market stupid?Originally posted by Scratch View PostIt's not protecting anyone, it's appeasing their fans...yeah, we had the money, don't worry, we just didn't feel the player was worth it...yeah, we believe you Mr Ferguson...

How do you know what Fergie and Owen have stated isn't the truth? If United are skint why are they reportedly interested in Silva in Jan?**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

Benzema was sold for around £40m and United were 'allegedly' willing to offer only around £32m. Don't you think they couldn't have gone that little bit further, especially taking into account he came to OT and visited the place? In any case, maybe they were rejected by Benzema anyway but Ferguson went out publicly to state that he pulled the plug on it because he wasn't worth that amount of money.Originally posted by Pacman View PostHang on so let me get this straight.

Yeah right Fredo come on mate.
Then Villa was available, still they couldn't prise him away, considering Villa is probably the best centre forward out there at the moment, including Torres.
United is £700m in debt, yet they still make massive profits and Ferguson gets his way when he wants to sign players for massive fees. It's more or less the same business model than ours. I don't see any problem in that, unless you don't qualify to the CL every season and lose revenues, which still wouldn't be a disaster for them and us, considering our huge fan base.
United is also just a 'few payments away' of going into Administration *cue Craig_H*, but hey, that's just doom mongering.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

We could use the same arguments on our predicament as well...maybe we wanted players but got quoted stupid prices?Originally posted by Pacman View PostOr maybe United have the cash and are being sensible considering clubs like City have paid way over the odds for players like Lescott thus making the market stupid?

And Silva in Jan, when he's cup-tied, will be a lot less money than Silva at the start of the season...how do you know we won't go back for a player in Jan, when we know his value will be less?
