I'd have a fit Masch in for Lucas at present. And it will be interesting to see if Agger and Aquilani could break into that team if it's getting the results.

Mascherano has been poor this season. I don't fancy him at all carrying the ball from defence and into attack, he just loses it too much. Lucas has been playing better and should be there on merit, ahead of Mascher, IMO.

Mascher's gone next year anyway.

Mascherano does not need to carry the ball from defence into attack. That is the job of whoever plays along side him. He is the best in the world at sitting back and breaking up attacks. With him in the side, both full backs can get in advanced positions and we would still have three at the back, meaning we would out number the opposition even when they play two up top.

Our problem this season (IMO) has been that neither he or Lucas can link the defence and attack. Gerrard is obviously capable of this and the hope is that Aquilani will also be capable.
