Liverpool v West Ham (A) - Post Match Thread

That's what I'm talking about. Hard fought away victory.

Same old problems, but a wins a win.

Have to say, inspired substitution by Rafa. Babel for Kuyt turned the game. Illunga and Hines were giving us a torrid time but Babel coming on kept Illunga back and allowed Johnson to snuff out the threat of Hines pace.

Deserved victory. Set Pieces again a problem, but it will be sorted in time, of that I'm sure.
    Forwards.......

Carragher and Skrtel were shocking. Very worried about our defence.

Great to see Torres back to something approaching top form. Took both his goals excellently.
A humble guy with healthy desire.

I really hope Agger is back for the next game, we really need to change our central defence. It's our biggest weakness at the moment, Carragher and Skrtel have been carried by the rest of our team and we're fortunate enough to have the productivity in attack.

Lucas and Masch together just doesn't work. I don't know why, but it doesn't work. Again, hopefully Aquilani will step in for one of them (I actually prefer Masch to drop to the bench but that's never going to happen).

No way, Carra had a blip. He'll carry on, he's undroppable.

Having weighed in during the week to say how crap Insua was, I thought he was a lot better today. Passing better, positioning better. he did alright. I did say Wednesday he will improve with time, so three days proves me right!!!

Why oh why are we so bad at defending corners and other set pieces?

That blip's been going too long to be called a blip.

                      It's a collective thing.

Rafa won't drop him, of that I'm sure of. He's part of our spine, so basically, he's undroppable.

I thought that Lucas and Mascherano worked quite well today, better than previous games anyway. We created plenty of openings that were not exploited. I think both worked the ball quite well and put our forward players in the positions we want them, but maybe they were not all on their game today to make the most of it.

I'm not convinced they will provide the answer long term, but that's why we pay out £20m for Aquilani. With regards to the defence, I think both Carra and Skrtel were of the boil, but class is permanent and they'll be back. Credit to West Ham in Cole and Hines they do offer a threat. Cole on his day is proving to be a real threat. And little is known of Hines and Diamanti in order for us to plan a way of dealing with them. Raw pace is always tough mind.

I don't think he'll be dropped, but he's currently in the team on reputation, not merit. Agger is a better fit for him than Skrtel, so hopefully him coming in will improve our general defensive game.
