Yes DannyMann, he looks like the extra responsibility (alonso's absence) isn't really agreeing with him, but i still think we're a better team with him in it.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View Post
I think with Argentinas coming games (Peru) it is clear they will qualify. When they do I think he may just be able to relax. But he needs to forge a better understanding of what Lucas can do and allow the Brazilian more of a chance to do what he is capable of. Javier is the best in the business at what he does. But I would not ask Yossi to be a defender anymore than I would ask Masch to be a deep lying playmaker.
Problem at present is i think he sees the youth of Lucas and so sees the pressure on himself to deliver Alonso style balls. Previous years he just won the ball and did what Lucas is so derided for, a 5 yard pass to the other CM (Alonso).
It will be worked out in Melwood, no doubts.
On a side note, any update on Aquilani anybody?

I'd always start him, which is why I may sometimes seem critical of Lucas. I like Lucas and hink he will be a good player for us. But he doesn't offer enough to be partnered with Masch, and as I think Masch is the best in the world at what he does, you can see why I would not start Lucas in games.
But I repeat, they were better today thatn they have been and maybe if they keep improving we will do well enough. If nothing else similar performances should see us through most games.Forwards.......

Aquilani is also getting close to being involved in full training," said Benitez.Originally posted by Molby View PostYes DannyMann, he looks like the extra responsibility (alonso's absence) isn't really agreeing with him, but i still think we're a better team with him in it.

Insua was immense! The amount of times the ball was played behind him and he never lost it once. Got forward to support the attack and played the ball into Torres for the first. A solid defender. The game changed when Rafa put Johnson on Hines in the second half. After that he never got a sniff but Johnson wasnt able to get forward as much. The full backs were fine. Sorry, but both Carra and Skrtel were shocking. Cole and Hines (height and pace) gave them a roasting all game. In the end they both marked Cole while Johnson took Hines and that ended the WH threat. It's worrying because there are better strike partnerships than the West Ham front line. Kuyt and Benny were average. Benny made some nice runs but drifted in and out. Kuyt was pretty anonymous apart from the goal. Babel did well when he came on. He certain can take a player on. Lucas actually had a decent game, still tends to take little responsibility going forward and just gives it to Gerrard or Masch to create. Needs to step up a bit more. Too similar to Masch for me. I actually thought Masch had a good game. Played a 'Xabi' role today taking the ball off the defenders and moving it forward. Stevie was quieter than usual but is still so effective around the edge of the box. Torres is just a legend. Kicked, pushed around, fouled... stands up and scores two great goals. Babel's floated cross wasnt the greatest but Nando made it into a good ball. Vital win for us.

I think the fact that we have already lost two and are playing catch up has made us all a little more tense. We simply cannot afford to drop many points. Usually this tension is there at the business end of the season but in my own reaction and that of our fans at the game I notice we have it earlier than usual. I think it's because wins like this are crucial to keep us in it. It's going to be tight from now until May I think. Come one City and Spurs tomorrow. We need a wide open race.

On the strength of one game??Originally posted by vonk View PostI'm going to throw this one out there..... what about a cheeky January bid for this Hines lad. Thought he was outstanding today and caused us all sorts of problems. Has a brain and pace. Can only get better. Just a thought.
Good result today. I thought Mascherano was excellent. back to the sort of form you expect from him.
