    Leeds build-up thread

So how do we approach this? Rafa's surprised us in this competition before, with the likes of Torres and other big-hitters starting games you wouldn't expect them to. Surely though, surely we won't take any chances this time?

I'd like to see something like this:

    --------------------Cavalieri------------------------

    Degen---------Kyrgiakos---Ayala-------------Aurelio

    ---------------Spearing----Plessis-----------------

    Babel---------------Pacheco------------------Riera

    ---------------------Ngog------------------------

I suspect Voronin will start ahead of Pacheco but personally I'd rather see if the prodigious Spaniard can cut it against men...against dirty Leeds in front of a rabid Elland Road crowd.

If memory serves, Torres played purely to get fitness last time, no?

It's a tough one this..we were absolutely gash against Spurs last year which may put Rafa off putting too many youngsters in, but I'd rather we did and played Amoo and Eccleston, N'gog, Pacheco etc. Agree with Degen and Aurelio who need games, and Babel as well

Aye I think so, but he's also played at Reading and one or two other League Cup games I didn't expect him to appear in.

To be honest I don't care too much about the Carling Cup, our squad isn't the strongest so I think we should put out a team that will help get players fit and give others experience. I'd like to see the likes of Aurelio and Degen get 90mins under their belts to regain fitness, and the likes of Spearing, Ngog and Pacheco get some experience. Also give one of the young centre backs a game.

Won't Plessis's red card in last Thursday's reserve fixture rule him out?

Good point, I think you may be right.

Maybe let Lucas carry on; a game like this might be a good one to allow his ever-increasing confidence to keep growing.

I'd think Cavalieri, Aurelio and Babel would be nailed on to play. However I would also like to see Ngog get a run out. I'm not sure how good an idea it is to play an entirely new defensive (outfield) six.

Carragher could definitely do with a rest but the problem is we have no other defensive leader. I guess I would play Skrtel in the hope that with a partner with less authority he might take responsibility.

I was thinking the same, Playing Skrtel with one of the young lads would force him to marshall the defence. Certainly worth a try, although I would imagine Kyrgiakos will play

Wouldn't mind seeing Shaggy's team fielded but I'm sure Dossena will start. It could be a good chance to experiment with Aurelio in the middle again, otherwise Dossena will play left midfield in a 442.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Totally forgot about Dossena. And great call with Aurelio in centre-mid too. If Plessis is suspended then I'd love to see Fabio in there instead (giving Lucas a well-earned rest), although he could do with some defensive practice.

Does anyone know if this is on TV? Leeds vs Liverpool, I miss those games

I would imagine the team will be something like

                        --------------------Cavalieri------------------------

                        ---------------Spearing----Aurelio-----------------

                        Babel---------------Voronin------------------Riera

                        ---------------------Ngog------------------------

Not sure which two from Dossena, Riera and Aurelio will start, but I'd like to see Aurelio in the centre of the park again. It looks like Ayala is above Kelly in the pecking order so I would imagine he'll start on Tuesday too.

Rest of the team (Cavalieri, Degen, Kyrgiakos, Babel, Voronin & Ngog) pretty much picks itself I think.

                        Looking forward to this.

Me. I like to see how the likes of Pacheco, Spearing, N'Gog perform in competitive games.

I hope we don't play any regular 1st teamers. Give the young guys a chance
