Some people may well see their wish for Spearing to be given a chance come true.

This is beyond a joke now. Why was he even training if there was a problem on Saturday? He should have gone back to Liverpool for treatment rather than stay with the England set up. I mean was it really worth keeping him for a second game in 4 days. FFS.

Sunderland have decent players in midfield, this could be a big problem.
          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

He's officially out of the game and on his way back to Liverpool now. Hopefully he's fit for the weekend

With his current form, i'm not too worried if he plays or not.

Before people fly off the handle my first four words are key in the above line.

I think the majority of the first 11 need to pull their finger out really mate not just Gerrard, who probably by his own admission has been below par so far. Torres has played well, Yossi has been good and Babel seems to be improving, but I'm struggling to pick any outstanding performers so far, (I'll give credit to Insua, he's done well)

I think Gerrard needs to get fit for this weekend though. With our first choice midfield either injured or knackered from flying stupid distances. A player of Gerrards ability is needed in the middle of the park for sure. If not then Spearing, its your cue to step up sunshine

With no Insua, Aurelio is the only viable left back. But that's a waste in this game as he is now fit and should play in the middle with Plessis. Yes he had a bad game against Fiori, but so did Torres and Gerrard. Leaving Benayoun to play behing El Nino.

So what do we do about left back? Well either play Agger there in a 442, or better still go 3511 (Carra, Skrtel, Agger). Johnson and Riera/Babel/Dossena playing as wing backs.
                    One tit for another.

I actually find myself agreeing with Marky here - well kind of, to suggest that you're not bothered whether he plays or not is the sign of a deranged man. (IMO)

Remove Gerrard's reputation and history and judging him just on his performances this season, on the whole they have been rather poor.

The difficulty with him is that he's impossible to read on the pitch - even when he's turning in man of the match performances he looks like a miserable sod.

Hopefully this latest injury isn't serious and he can play himself back into form.

Especially as Rooney was sent home a few days ago with his "calf injury"

So you think he should never play for us again

Hopefully this is Gerrard just taking matters into his own hands and removing himself from training. If not it's ****ing ludicrous! Injured before h/t on Saturday and obviously carrying a bit of an injury then why the **** is he training today!?? No doubt Rooney will be fit for the weekend. If Gerrard is out for Saturday i'll be fuming.

For my money Gerrard would have been keen to play. I don't believe he's yet nailed down a starting position for England under Capello. At the moment he plays left wing, but for me he is only playing there due to a lack of options. If a proper left sided player can come in and do a job then Gerrards starting place would be under serious threat.

Of course, If Gerrard stays fit I would expect him to start the first game in the world cup, but he does have a battle on.

With regards to Gerrards Liverpool form, he ahs been well below his best. But he is still an essential player in the first XI and with Masch and Lucas returning late, he couldn't have picked a worse week to get injured.

I will say that if Spearing plays, he wouldn't let anybody down.

I agree with that, and those left-sided players would of course be the cunt Joe Cole, Wayne Bridge and Downing.
