Liverpool vs Lyon pre match discussion

I know it's early, but i just feel it's time move on from the depression of the last few days. There's been enough name calling and finger pointing to last a whole season, enough is enough, lets move on.

Over to the CL, our task of qualifying is not as easy as some would've first thought so we have another must game on our hands. No news yet regarding Gerrard and Torres, but my own gut feeling says they won't be involved. Anybody know anything about the current Lyon team and how do you think we should approach this game.
Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon

They're top of the league and had been doing very well until this weekend, losing their first game 2-0 at home to Sochaux. Had their first team out too.

They have spent heavily in the summer after selling Benzema to Madrid, including buys such as Lopez, Gomis and Bastos - all big money buys. When it all clicks they can be great to watch, as witnessed by their pre qualifying games in the CL.

It will be interesting to see how they react to their first league defeat. I expect our team to have too much for them at Anfield, but things haven't gone quite to plan for us thus far so we'll have to see.

Talk of an easy group was always ridiculous, Fiorintina are a team on the up and Lyon are always there or there abouts in Europe. But if Liverpool were to fail to qualify it would be a major upset and would cause great suprise around Europe.

In their own league Lyon tend to play a possession game, but against Liverpool I expect them to utilise their pace on the break and use Gomis to hold the ball up and bring others into play. He and Lopez and have adapted suprisingly well to each others game and Lopez will look to play of Gomis, not to dis similar to the way Heskey and Owen used to combine for us.

Watch for Bastos looking to blast them too, much like Vargas did for Fiorintina.
      Forwards.......

We'll beat Lyon on tuesday night and we'll beat United on sunday. Won't mean anything in the long run though as neither the Premier League title or Champions League will be arriving on merseyside come what May.
Liverpool FC are a club in crisis. You have to wonder how much longer we can be considered one of European's Top Clubs and up there with Madrid, Barca, Inter, Man U and Chelsea.

we might not win the league but we didnt become crap overnight, our confidence is badly damaged and in need of repair

we need to beat lyon. we need a performance, i am sure the players and staff are well aware of this, i hope and pray we get the reaction we are looking for

On a positive nite, i think Liverpool fans are the most patient and loyal in the country, i truly believe that.

I don't think United and Chelsea supporters would put up with the dross we've had to endure for too many years now and without the old 'we've got 18 titles, while youse have 15' line we always used to the Mancs, we can't even go back to our past and gloat.

For too long now we've got used to and are accepting that we won't be top dogs in English football. It's a sad state of affairs and it's left me wondering if we over-achieved last season with our league position and points total.
Perhaps that's as good as it's going to get until big changes are made...

By getting behind Raffa and the Team and try and pull us out off our mini dip in form,

Granted, there's a few players who know who they are who need to pull their socks up and play for the Shirt they wear on their back instead of countin their wages each week and just plodding along but, most of all, show us Fans that we still have pride at our Club which earned Club the repetation we had in the 70's, 80's which every Club coming to our famous Ground really sh!t themselves just walking down the Tunnel.

                Personally, i think we'll win Lyon 2-1

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard returned to training ahead of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Lyon but Fernando Torres sat out once again.

Both players missed the defeat to Sunderland at the weekend after suffering groin injuries whilst on international duty.

Gerrard is now back working with the rest of the squad and Rafa Benitez will hope he comes through unscathed to take his place in the side against Lyon.

However, Torres' absence from training on Monday morning leaves him more doubtful for the encounter at Anfield.

were to start - i'm going tomorrow and i almost don't want too!

                            Are gerrard and torres back?

We need to someone forget everything, get back to basics and start a fresh! - If there is no torres or gerrard - i'd go 4-4-2 and look to get everyone running their bollocks of and play at high tempo to pressure lyon.

The worry is, without torres/gerrard.........who do we have who can score, i'd be tempted to play Kuyt and Ngog up front! thats about as good as we can - riera and benayoun on the wings with mascher and lucas in the middle, back four of johnson/aurelio and then prob agger and carra, reina in goal.

Best chance we have of winning is another world class performance from reina - and the the three or four footballers with have in the team (agger/aurelio/johnson/benayoun) keep it simple, keep possesion and the ball moving between the four of them and create something for ngog to tap in
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do
