That's a very simplistic thing to say mate. Voronin isn't the best player in the world but he is playing as if he doesn't have any belief he has the backing of the crowd. He came on last night to a chorus of boos. Hardly exciting.

I'm not defending him but he wasn't the one to blame for our defeat last night (I mean Benni's substitution). It wasn't Rafa's fault that Reina flapped at punching a ball from a corner and that our defence went to sleep in the closing stages of the game in a game we were winning.

the money arguement will no doubt rumble on for ages but the bottom line is rafa spunked a combined 26 mill on babel, dossena and lucas. 2 of those players he never plays and lucas is not lfc standard. bottom line - he ****ed up. with that 26 mill he could ahve bought a world class player.

Yes but Babel was looked on as one of the game's rising stars at Ajax, Dossena is a first choice for the Italian side and was courted by Juve and Inter, so signing him was a coup and Lucas was Brazilian Player of the Year, so none of them was actually an example of Rafa "spunking money" at the time. All were astute signings on paper. It's just a pity that Rafa doesn't have your grasp of the world game and your searching insight into player ability and what constitutes value for money.

Slaggin of Souness has got to stop ffs. He has his opionion and we have ours. Hes certainly more qualified than you and i. (but yes the whole without Torres and Gerrard we are crap i dont buy) We have lost 4 on the spin and i can see that being 6 and possibly 7 in the away game to fulham which is gona be extreamly tough! not to mention Lyon away. Possibly 8 games on the spin we could easilly loose and especially with the sides we are up against. Would opinions of Rafa change then? He would have to go surely.

I actually think that Souness often talks more than sense than most as a pundit. His own shortcomings as a manager are pretty much irrelevant in that respect. No-one says Hansen's opinion is worthless yet he hasn't managed so much as a pub team.

I really didn't enjoy hearing it, but I found myself reluctantly agreeing with most of what Souness said.

Hoddle, on the other hand, is a know-nothing bozo.

I loved Souness as a player and despite what happened during his managerial reign with us I dont hate the guy. I have my own theory as to why he was **** as a manager for us and thats down to that crop of players generally being **** and not showing the passion Souness always did, he didnt like that and couldnt cope.
Anyway, I find him pretty good as a pundit, generally fair without being over biased in our favour and I still like the man.

One thing though, Dean Saunders was hot property when he came to us so you really shouldnt criticise him for that particular signing, there are plenty of justified reasons to slag him off but that isnt one of them.

Graeme Souness launched a scathing attack on Rafa Benitez and his "plod, plod, plod" side last night.

The former Liverpool captain and manager accused the current boss of failing to build a team during his five years in charge.

He said: "It's no good saying there wasn't enough money last summer. What about the previous years? "If you have been there for five years you have had the chance to build your own club. It's no good pointing to being without your best two players."

And Souness told Sky Sports: "Out of the big clubs Liverpool is the best at home at a time like this. They are a footballing crowd, but without their top two men the team looked a very ordinary side.

"There was no spark without Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. It was plod, plod, plod.

"The criticism aimed at Rafa would be he has signed 67 players but if he is missing two or three it doesn't look anything like a team that can win big games."

& he would do.... oh wait we know what he would do!!! Knob!

It's a pity we don't have the grasp of the English game and spunk money on prospects who's only experience is in different an inferior leagues imo. Yes, top clas english players cost a lot at their peak (e.g. johnson) but the success rate of foreign signings makes them riskier and can make them less value for money.
