Amoo looked good, but didn't see much of the ball, and Ecclestone seemed to want to try one thing too many for my liking, rather than passing....but that Pacheco....lad is a class act, and puts himself about as well!!

agree. keep wondering when he'll get a game. for my money he should be ahead of spearing, but i have no special powers of perception...

Despite the fact that Pacheco has played more of a midfield role for the Reserves recently, I don't think him and Spearing are really the same kind of player. Whilst I wasn't confident with a midfield of Spearing and Lucas last weekend, I would have been even less so had it been Pacheco and Lucas.

That's not to say I don't rate Pacheco, because I do - a lot. But he shouldn't be seen as fighting with Spearing for the same position IMO. Who knows he may end up as a midfield maestro but no way is he ready yet to play that position for the first team.

i didn't mean that they were in direct competition, and i agree with what you're saying, but surely we could have shifted in a creative senior player, perhaps benni or even aurelio, as unpopular as that sounds, and let pacheco run the lines behind kuyt (in that instance) to give us experience in the middle, and give the opportunity to the reserve player who is knocking hardest on the door. it's no bigger a risk, although i would agree it's still risky.

point is, we should reward the young players who show that they are ready for a game when we have vacancies going in the 1st team, and we are so woeful going forward at the moment, we could use someone who is genuinely creative in the side.

Lucas was the covering player on that side of the pitch for the second goal and didnt even make an attempt to get near anyone you can see him strolling in on the camera angle from behind the goal when they scored.

I certainly think there are places on the bench to be won for the likes of Pacheco. I'm not sure I would want him starting but given that Voronin and Babel are regulars there and have failed to either kick on or produce what they have elsewhere then they have to be vulnerable to any internal replacement. Realistically at the minute it looks like Pacheco, Ngog, Kelly and Spearing are the likely players to benefit from any opportunities due to problems in the more regular first teamers. None of them look ready to be first choice just yet though.

I find it amazing how little leeway people are willing to give young players. I can understand people feeling that Voronin is not going to suddenly improve and is not contributing a great deal but the way some people seem determined to write off the likes of Ngog I think is a bit disappointing.

I think the important question is would we laugh at Ngog if he played for UTD. You know, like a lot of people here do with Nani.

Difference though! we plucked ngog out of nowhere for about £1.5m - United paid around £17m for Nani!!!

                      It's not important to me.

I think he's got a great deal of potential. He's not at a level yet where he can be relied upton week in week out. Nor is it ideal to throw him in at the deep end in crucial games when the team is playing poorly. A lot of young players would find it hard when faced with such pressure.

                        Absolutely

20 years old, made ~30 first team appearances in his entire career so far (and maybe what, a dozen starts, if that?). Its not his fault we haven't got any other sensible options in that position when Torres is out, the people writing him off as "useless" need to get a grip of themselves imho.

The problem is not Ngog but the person who plays our best striker (less Torres) out on the wing, leaves a winger on the bench and plays a reserve striker as our main threat.

N'Gog is not a bad player, but he's not good enough for us, and I doubt he will ever be at some point in his career. Good technique but not much else. I don't understand how people consider him pacey, and he loses the ball too many times. He's decent at holding it up and playing with his back to the goal, but it takes ages for him to release it before someone comes in and nicks it. He will improve but he's the type of striker that, in my opinion, does not suit a big team.

                                fair enough

he did win a lot of aerial duels, and the balls that came at him at shoulder height he somehow managed to control.

imo he can be a very good second option in the seasons to come, when he gains a bit more muscle strenght, and gets more experience.
