Could Martin Kelly help solve our attacking problems?

I know it was his first ever match for us and he is only young, but could Martin Kelly slot into the right back spot and Glen Johnson be moved onto the right wing?. I believe Johnson is more than good enough for that position (maybe even more suited to it??)
This would allow Kuyt to move upfront with Torres, and Gerrard to go back into midfield, just to give us a bit more going forward and more quality in midfield (I dont think we need a holding midfielder for half of the games.....never mind two!)

Of course this is all presuming Kelly is good enough to make the grade and I'm presuming he is with Rafa giving him his debut in such big match. Just wondered what people thought?

    --------------------Reina--------------------

    Kelly -------Carragher----Agger------Aurelio / Insua

    --------------- Mascherano/Aquilani ----------

    Johnson ------------Gerrard ----------Benayoun

    -----------Kuyt -----------
    ---------------------Torres---------------------

Personally I think, impressive debut though it was, that its much too early to be looking at the lad as "the answer" to anything.

Also, looking at that formation, I'm not sure I can see Aquilani playing the holding role on his own, in that sort of team he'd really be competing with Gerrard rather than Mascher.

Reckon we'd be better perservering with johnson at RB for now, that's his natural position (imo), he just needs to pick up a bit more defensive nouse without losing that attacking instinct. Theoretically, with the rest of the team fit and on form, it does sort of look like he and Kuyt should fit well together down that side. I'd stick with that plan if it were me.

I agree with your statement and it is something I have funnily thought of today, but we have to give the lad time, he's still young and along way to go. No point like acting like many a posters here, and claiming he's good then further on down the line, saying he's ****e and never gonna make it a la 'insua'.

I have to add, I would much rather that formation without Kyut, with Gerrard there and maybe if/when Aquilani proves he's worth it, to play in the middle with Johnson and Benayoun, possibilites.........................

Aquilani will never play in the holding role as he's not defensive at all. He will play in front of Masch/Lucas.

It's simply too early to judge.. i reckon the motivation for him was that he played for the first time....

Gerrard should be playing centre midfield at the moment to settle the ship and Benayoun playing off Torres.... Oh and Kelly was brilliant the other night I'd consider him at full back with Johnson moving into midfield (long term I think Kelly is a centre Half).

Attacking full backs are not as good when used as wingers because part of what makes them dangerous is their unpredictability when coming in from deep. If Johnson played as a winger, it would have been easier for the opposition to nullify him and he would have had less space to run into. I don't support this.
