    Derek McGover(Daily Mirror)

Well he's the betting man but he has an article in the Mirror every saturday.
Here's a snippet from his piece today as he previews the Liverpool United match...

"What punters must remember is that though Liverpool aren't playing well, neither are United. Xabi Alonso, this is the same Liverpool team that was comfortably the best in the Premier League last term and they'll prove it tomorrow"

Good to see a bit of positivity for once.
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

Remind me, what was your prediction in the associated thread?

He is a Red though. Bar against Sunderland last week he always predicts us to win and usually United to lose. He's not a very good tipster, but his column is very good, quite ammusing.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

very unfair considering he's the man who convinced the racing post to expand into sports other than horses and now it has a substantial sports section, he's writing for the mirror and gives the readers exactly what mirror readers expect i.e. a bit of humour with no in depth analysis

Hardly very unfair. It was just an off the cuff remark about the bets I’ve followed, not an in depth review of his tipping career. Maybe what I should have said, from my experience, he (and I by following) hasn’t got the greatest track record.

His betting style actually reminds me of myself. Like me he seems to do what no betting person should do, hold vendetta’s and bet with your heart and consequently fail miserably.

There was one year that more or less every week he tipped City (I might have the wrong on the team) to get beat. It was quite funny, because even when they had the easiest of matches, and you thought he surely couldn’t do it again, low and behold.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s the odd snippet when he highlights when certain lower division teams will have a clear advantage and should be bet or even when two teams are gonna play for the draw. Also, he’s prints guaranteed winners by using different bookies odds to guarantee profit, but unfortunately by the time of print, odds are gone.

You may have stats to prove me wrong, and I wasn’t having a go, but I just find some of his bets of the day as comical as the jokes he prints.
