He's still learning, great game again today. He deserves so much credit - he's been jeered in the past by his own supporters, but he's kept focussed and worked hard. I think it's inevitable Mascherano will leave next summer if Barcelona come in for him again, and hopefully by then Lucas will be just as effective.

Fantastic today, played with authority and confidence, and really made his presence felt, something which has been missing from our midfield all season.

thought he came out of his shell today, the little chief and Lucas really bossed the middle today.

If he could just cut out his tendency to giving away free kicks.......

But anyway , what the feck, i'm just nit picking - well done lucas - you're the man.

What a great feeling...........tanking the mancs again !!!

Improved massively on last season and today paid Rafa back for the faith shown in him. More performances like today and Rafa may have a hard time fitting in Aquilani.

Well done Lucas, you kicked the sh*t out of some deserving mofos. (p.s. still want Aquaman in asap next to Masch at his expense).

When Mascher goes, i reckon Lucas will slot quite easily into that DM role....yes, WHEN Mascher goes....

He played well today, but he did last season against the Mancs. People just tend to forget those performances when the going gets tough.

Against the Mancs both he and Masch were asked to hassle the midfield and break up the play. They did this exceptionally well. My worry for that midfield pairing is that they lack a creative spark.

Andy Gray alluded to the same point in the last word and it's the same point I've been banging on about all season. Mascherano is a world class holding player. Lucas is a decent one who is getting better. Neither are playmakers and as such Liverpool have suffered when the burden has been on them to create.

I think a Masch and Lucas pairing is fine for the odd game, but played on a regular basis teams get wise on how to stop Liverpool.

We still need a creative spark and for me that will be Aquilani. as Masch is the best in the world in his role that would therefore leave Lucas on the bench for me.

But he will still get games and will continue to improve. Lately to much burden has been on his young shoulders (same as N'Gog recently too) but he'll learn from it.
                          Forwards.......

I think Lucas makes wonderful forward runs and finds himself in very good positions more often than not, so saying that he lacks a creative spark is a bit over the top IMO.

The thing he's lacking is authority and being consistent in the former. He lacks a bit of confidence but as soon as he gets that, he'll be a top player.

I think we played a more traditional 4-4-2 today, which freed him and allowed him to exert a little more authority.

I'm not sure it was a 442 as Kuyt dropped deep constantly.

The goal scoring record of Lucas suggests that his forward runs are not having the impact to say he has a creative spark. He also lacks the passing range of Alonso to make the team tick. Not his fault, he is just not a playmaker in the mould of an Alonso or Aquilani.

He's not a bad player and I'm not having a go at him. I think he'll prove to be well worth the £6m Rafa paid for him. I just think that the partnership of Masch and lucas is not the best for LFC in 90% of games.

Why do we have to compare him with Alonso? He's not the same player, so it's not even relevant. I think his success rate at passing the ball compares favourably with Alonso and he's got a better engine too. Scoring goals will come, he's still young and will improve. It is only his first season being a regular here.
