it was great to see the legend sami hyypia back in the stands watching his beloved reds beat our bitter rivals. nice of him to fly in from germany to show support. a true liverpool legend
#1 pickup line of all time: "Hey, does this rag smell like chloroform to you?
Sami lets hope we see him back at the club in some capacity when he finishes playing
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
Sami Hyypia has revealed his concern over Liverpool's disastrous form, which has seen them lose four games on the trot - their worst run of results in 22 years.
He said in The Daily Mail: "I'm very sad that Liverpool are struggling a little bit. They're a great club, great fans, I'll always wish them success. But what's happening there is not really my business."
The Finnish veteran - widely regarded as one of the Reds' all-time great defenders - signed for Bayer Leverkusen during the summer, thus bringing an end to a decade of stellar service at Anfield.
"I didn't feel I needed a new challenge," he explained. "I had a great time at Liverpool - ten years at a club like that. But when you are not playing and a chance comes to do something about it, then you go for it."
Hyypia's last season on Merseyside saw him limited to a bit-part role, with Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger preferred at the heart of the Reds' rearguard.
However, the 36-year-old denied that his decision to leave Liverpool came as a result of any ill-feeling between him and Rafael Benitez.
"As a player you always want to be part of those games but in the past few years I didn't play in many of the big games, against Chelsea or United or Arsenal," he said.
"It's the manager's choice, I've nothing against that, I've nothing against Mr Benitez. But the big games are the ones you want most."
Hyypia will be one among many millions watching from afar this weekend as his old side play host to Manchester United - and he holds fond memories of his past tussles with Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
He said: "We lost 3-2 but I scored my first Liverpool goal against Manchester United. Jaap Stam was marking but they had a goalkeeper called [Massimo] Taibi, who came out. Maybe there was a mix-up in communication. I headed into an empty net.
"I scored at the Kop as well, with my left foot. I haven't scored that many, I can remember them all."
