Liverpool FC goalkeeper Pepe Reina to be offered new long term deal

PEPE REINA will be offered the chance to extend his Anfield career as Liverpool aim to tie up the long-term future of another key first-team regular.

Club officials will sit down with Reina in January to begin negotiations over a lucrative new contract.

The 27-year-old only signed a five-year deal in June 2007 but Liverpool are keen to stave off any interest from potential suitors, with Barcelona known to be tracking the Spain international.

Reina’s new deal would represent the next big outlay for Liverpool, who this year have already agreed long-term contracts with Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger, Dirk Kuyt as well as manager Rafael Benitez.

The Spaniard has the record for the fewest number of goals conceded by a keeper in their first fifty games at Liverpool, as well as taking the least amount of games to register 50 and 100 clean sheets.

A ten year deal should do it. Brilliant keeper and seems really important to the squad.

As soon as i read this thread i got a bad feeling that Reina wouldn't want to commit and see's the next stage of his career back in Spain. I hope to god I am wrong because we simply wouldn't be able to replace him.

Reina will go down as liverpools best ever keeper imo. Head and shoulders above anything else in the premiership it baffles me that he so often gets overlooked as the premierships best when in my eyes he is one of the worlds best.....pisses all over the given's and friedels of this world. Nobody since schmeicel has commanded there box better and nobody reads the game better from between those posts and he can sprint like usain bolt to

30k more per week to gerard, beny, kuyt, torres, agger, huge new contract to johnson 100k per week?...... best part of 10m per year extra than what our costs were last year

              Having successful players certainly costs

Agree with all the sentiments of getting him signed up long term, to the end of his career at the least, then he can go to Barca.

Superb keeper, best in the Premiership without doubt for me.

Pepe loves it here, he's best mates with Torres and they're both very much settled at Liverpool. I'm not worried at all, he'll stay.

Nando aside (), I love Pepe so much and would be devastated to see him go. He clearly loves the club and I hope he is here for many years yet. He will be our greatest ever keeper, of that I am convinced.

I've watched Liverpool since the back end of the 1988/89 season and he's the best keeper I've ever seen in a Liverpool shirt.

In fact I'm struggling to think of many better during that time in world football. Maybe I'm just having a short term memory blank, but can only think of Peter Schmichael, Gianluigi Buffon, Iker Cassilas and Petr Cech for two seasons who I have been more impressed with.

I honestly wouldn't awap him for anyone. I think he's better than Cassilas at present and would be heralded as the worlds best if Spain ever see sense and put him as number one.
                        Forwards.......

totally agree - a superstar and streets ahead of everyone else - imo probably only second to Casillas in the world, reason being if casillas was anywhere else other than Real, i think reina would be first choice for spain, i think reina gets overlooked by many due to the fact casillas keeps him out the national team. -

Reina is by far the most underrated player i have seen - and I certainly wouldn't swap him for any other keeper in the world - i love him, on top of being class, he is a funny ****ing nutter too!!

My dad is your typical old man scouser, stood on the kop for over 30 years, and waxes lyrical about the good old days. - He turns to me the other day and admitted, that he thinks reina is the best keeper he has ever seen for liverpool.
