So he's protecting his own ass by risking failure in both competitions?

If this is the case then why play an unfit Torres at all today? Surely if Rafa is protecting his ass with the CL then playing and risking Torres at all is madness.

We need to be close come January, could be out of sight by then. The league should ALWAYS take priority. It's what we are desperate for.

      Look at it this way.

Gerrard was very doubtful for the Lyon game, yet played and got injured.

Johnson was doubtful for the Man Utd game, yet played the full 90 minutes. He failed to make the squad for the Fulham game.

Torres was doubtful for the Man Utd game, but had pain killing injections and lasted 80 minutes. With a whole week to rest he starts the game against Fulham, but got taken off after an hour. Rafa's reason? He's had pain killing injections. He had the same for the Man U game yet lasted 20 minutes extra.

In my mind it is very clear. Rafa placed greater emphasis on the Man Utd and Lyon games. Pretty ****ing stupid when all he and our players spoke about after the Manc game was how in reality all it was is three points, nothing more.

Well the Fulham game brings the same amount of points, but Rafa went with a weaker team and clearly took the game for granted. An absoloute disgraceful decision.
For going out with a weaker team we don't know yet if they were injured/had some kind of bug. In any case, that team should have been good enough to win this match, and based on the first half we should have scraped a win. Dunno what happened in the second half.

Normally totally dejected, but now the dejection has been taken over by bemusement. Has it ever been this bad? I never ever remember us out of contention in October. That's a ****ing record. Today was like a pantomine. The inability of Degen, Voronin, Babel, Carragher, Kyriakos, Kuyt, Insua to pass the ball is incredible. Yossi Benayoun is our best player all of a sudden, and we have a bizarrely enormous injury list. But just when we think it couldnt get worse we find out Agger and Skrtel are also out! Despite all this we totally dominate the first half. Our defense is shaky but we really look like we can get a result. But just when you are pushing for the win, Rafa pulls a rabbit out of the hat and pulls off the best striker in the world. Later he takes off the best player on the pitch. The the ref gets involved in the comedy and sends off two of our players, neither of which looked like reds.

          You couldnt make it up.

By the way, Dirk Kuyt is a completely overrated footballer.

No Gerrard, Aquilani, Riera, Johnson, Agger, Aurelio, Ngog, that in itself shows how weak our squad is.

I just pray we can get something on Wednesday.

We were falling apart well before Torres was replaced. We didn't have the same control.

                  2. this is october - the league is not lost.
                  3. if we don't have our best players fit and ready for lyon AWAY we will lose and go out of the CL.
                  4. if we go out of the CL we categorically have no money to strengthen in january.
                  5. rafa had to make a call - trust his players to keep it at 1-1 and have torres and benayoun at their max for lyon AWAY or let them run themselves into the ground for a goal that may not come and not have that extra 10% in ther tank for ****IN LYON AWAY WHERE HIS CALL IS THAT WE HAVE TO WIN OR WE ARE OUT OF THE CL!!! SEE POINT 4!
                  6. horrible gutwrenching situation to be in with added injuries and bad luck. a day to forget but a few ins for us, a result against lyon and the odd dropped couple of points for the teams above us and we'll forget today. all is not well at LFC i know but we can't afford to sack rafa finacually anyway and why the **** do people think that kenny dalglish is going to turn this season, our finances and the ownership situatio around one third of the way through a season? it's sentimentality and premature desperation gone mad.
That is not a good enough excuse. We will not win the league by throwing away points, which is what Rafa did today. In fact it's what he did in the summer too.

Had he bought a ****ing decent back up to Torres in the summer we could have well have won this game today. I like N'Gog (not available today) but he should be third choice. When Torres does not play, we struggle to score a goal as our other strikers are not good enough.

Voronin is ****e and needs to be sold. Babel is a player I like, but Rafa clearly has no faith in him and he therefore needs to go.

I said at the start of the season that if our main players stay fit we can win the league. But without them we are not good enough. Anyone who argues otherwise needs to look at our recent results.

Insua's passing was good today. apart from that I agree.

lets go on a ****ing spree instead.

So why give Fulham more confidence by taking of your best player. And only goal scoring threat?

Pathetic. I wish Craig H was still on this site as I'd love to have heard his views on the game.

We are 11 points behind Chelsea. It's over. We can't win every game and we've already lost 5. Even the most red-tinted red would admit its over. Putting all our eggs in the CL basket is very risky. Yes, we could make the second stage but its a tough one to win. Like someone said, whats the point resting players now, when we could be out of every competition come January.

he had to make a call and the players left on couldn't hold it together. with what money should we have bought a player who is good enough to fill in for torres but only when torres is injured or rested? we have n'gog, voronin, kuyt and babel to do that in theory. and if we lose on wednesday, there might be a load of bleating about **** the CL lets win the league now but the financial implications are massive for being out of the CL. times have changed - and not for the better for LFC - but that's the way it is.
