"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."
I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Why does everyone think that Torres had to stay on the pitch? He was not as good as last weekend and wasnt looking like he was going to create anything on his own. His goal was by taking advantage of some luck, but he needed service today and got none. Hangeland pretty much had him covered the whole time. I was disappointed when he got substituted but if people want him to stay on "just in case" then you are speculating and nothing else. Babel was continually trying to find space and asking for the ball, again their defence cleared up what came though.
With that the substitution of Torres wasnt a suprise, Benni was but he did very little in the 2nd half. The only reason Voronin didnt come off was because we were down to 9 men by then and he isnt as important for our next game anyway.
The criticism of Degen is pretty pathetic, he was the only player (maybe including Benni) who actually tried to get forward today. He could have tried to get to the byline more often, but he no way deserves the rubbish written in this thread, he was an outlet for us.
We created very little today we had so much ball but very little in the final third. Hughes and Hangeland mopped up anything that came and they should take the credit. As should their forward line, as they pressurised us whenever they got the chance.
It was clear we didnt have a full strength squad but for fans to question why players arent there when they might be fit is pathetic. We didnt have 7 or 8 first teamers available today we have to accept that, instead we moan and criticise the manager. He has nothing to do with the fact that we couldnt create the chances, and today this was probably the best team he could have played.
The sad things about today were that we made more mistakes and were punished (Kuyt trying to keep the ball in); Voronin was awful with very poor control and poor passing; and that we didnt create any chances. Fulham picked us off and took their opportunities well, but we would have beaten them with more fit players in our squad today.
I am not saying i am satisfied with the result but there is some real rubbish written here about some of the players and managers, i think some some support needs to be shown when the team needs it most.Last edited by saveferris; 01-11-09, 01:14 AM.Quit your jibber jabber!!!

I admit I couldn't understand the Benayoun substitution, but I didn't have a problem with Torres coming off. Yeah ideally we'd want him to stay on to push for the win but would people rather see him stay on and get injured and be out for the next few weeks. It was always the plan for him to play just an hour due to him not being 100%, and that should have been enough time for us to get into a winning position. But as it wasn't it would have been too big a risk to keep him on bearing in mind there was a MASSIVE game vs Lyon coming up. Besides I still think the team should have been good enough to win after he went off.
And the people saying why didn't he play 80 minutes like last week, well I'm sure the champions league game coming up is more important to be fit for than the Carling Cup game that followed last weekend. Rafa said Torres wasn't able to train properly for 4 days following the game last week, so I don't think it would have been a good idea to risk him being unfit for a must win game vs Lyon.
Ok we ended up losing this game, and realistically the title is looking unlikely for this year but the chance is still going to be there if we could put a good run together, unlike the champions league where a loss on Wednesday could mean elimination.

I was in london today and almost bought two hospitality tickets for £200.00 a go from the fulham website for me and the mrs to see the game and make a day of it. After seeing that pile of **** thank **** i decided not too.
This is cutting deep into e as a LFC supporter and scouser. I am lost for words of how history has repeated itself it is the same as 2003.
Without torres, gerrard or benni we are ****.

This match is ****. just bull ****.
voronin and babel should be hanged. these guys have zero determination and drive. i would put any youth in our reserves to replace those two. I was fine with him playing carra and greek together in defense. however i hate to admit it but its true that insua is being exploited on the left side. needs to work on his defending.
and like someone has mentioned, where is el zhar? i bet he makes a pretty decent sub when coming dwn from the bench. All in all i felt rafa could have put out a squad with more DRIVE and DESIRE.
**** depressing stuff

Keep it going lads, I actually managed to laugh there.
My opinion btw is that we certinaly shouldnt get rid of Rafa- & that's not cos of losing our best players as the person claiming to speak for "most fans" would have us believe.
Rafa has made some mistakes aye, but injuries, lack of budget, high expectations, misfortune & intense media bias/scrutiny have magnified these significantly.
Sadly though, where we has issues of quality & depth up top last season, we now have them in CM & defence too. Until we get the mythical owners with City/Chavs/Scum depth pockets, we are always gonna be fire-fighting squad-wise I fear.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Whatever happens, give him to the end of the season.
But as shocking as it is for someone formerly accused of being a fully paid up RCDNW party member to say, we need to seriously assess where we're going this summer and see if Rafa as taken us as far as he can.
Constant **** performances as to come back to the manager at some point. Sure, we've had injury issues, and sure they've been playing below par not him, but it's his job to motivate 'em. I personally don't think he's done too bad transfer wise with what he had to work with, but I have doubts about his man management skills.
And the occasional brain implosion subs doesn't help either.
I always hoped he'd be the one to get us back up, and I believed it. I still hope he is but not sure I believe it any more.
We can never forget Istanbul. But the past can only keep his hold on the future for so long.Last edited by EwarWoo; 01-11-09, 02:18 PM.

According to Liverpool.no Skrtel has a thigh injury, suffered in training thursday, and may keep him out of the Lyon game. Gerrard, Johnson, Riera, Kelly and El Zhar injured. Aquilani was down with a virus, and Agger, Cavalieri, N'gog and Aurelio became ill Friday night/Saturday. Eleven players out, hopefully some of them are fit for Wednesday.
