    Aquilani HAS to play on Monday!

    Obviously assuming his injury is fine which I'm sure it is as he looked fine in the Carling Cup, just lacked some match practice & Birmingham will be the perfect kind of game to do that.
    He did more in the 15 mins he had against Arsenal than Lucas & a some other players have done all season! I mention Lucas only because that is the slot where Aquilani will slot in - he can get forward & Mascher can stay back & break things down. Lucas cannot play the Mascherano role.
    Unfortunately as hard as Lucas tries and as much as he's improved he is no where near good enough at the moment & even if Aquilani is not even 100% match fit he could offer a lot more than Lucas imo...

    So a Lucas bash under the guise of an Aquilani debate, how surprising.

    A lot of us think Lucas has a lot to offer and has been playing well. He is not the reason for our poor run.

    I'm looking forward to seeing a fit Aqua man, whenever he's ready though.

      it was wrong of benitez not to give him some time last night. how does a player who needs minutes on the field get them ffs??? he had to get at least 15-20 mins

        Amazing what a run of games can do for a player - Lucas looked very good last night and showed genuine promise. If Gerrard is still not fit by Monday I would be tempted to play Aquaman in the Gerrard role behind Torres and drop Voronin (who is ****).

            i agree with mr.t

            Voronin is garbage the reason why over the last two games we've lacked cutting edge upfront, everything breaks down with the ass tailed german

                  Lucas is a holding midfielder and we can't play two all season. Especially at home. Its an easy choice between Lucas and Masch. Aquilani is needed for some creativity. It's unlucky for Lucas, but it's only because of his position. The person who deserves to be dropped is Dirk Kuyt.

                            Because N'gog is a replacement for Torres while Voronin is a support striker (apparantly).

                              personally i wouldn't have started with either ngog or voronin (who i wouldnt have near the first team - i wouldn't even have him near the reserves - nemeth has to be recalled in jan in my view) - the team i would have started with last night would have been:

                              ---------------------REINA---------------------

                              CARRA------THE GREEK-----AGGER------INSUA

                              ------------LUCAS---------MASCHERANO-------

                              KUYT-------------BENNY--------------AQUILANI OR BABEL

                              ----------------TORRES------------------------------




                              what a disgrace that voronin wears the no. 10 jersey as well - honestly i'd have prefered to have started with 10 men......

                              with regards to aquilani last night, the reason that rafa didnt bring him on is because masherano, lucas and benayoun were all playing so well. One option that i would have possibly preferred would have been to bring on aquilani instead of torres and move dirk to centre forward, with babel on the left and aquilani or lucas moving to the gerrard role.......but swings and roundabouts - **** happens and we were desperately unlucky.....

                              at the end of the day, if we could hold onto the ball properly and defend a lead properly, then we should have had 6 points against lyon over the 2 games - we got 1!!!! what a kick in the nuts.......

                              i do think we will still get through the group though!!!
