A draw for Fiorentina against Lyon will not be enough for them to qualify.

    A draw for Fiorentina against Lyon will not be enough for them to qualify.

    I started this in a seperate thread because i'm fed up of people saying a draw will be enough for Fiorintina againmst Lyon. It will not be. Only a Fiorintina win will send us out the competition after game 5.

    If Fiorintina win we are out. If they draw we need to better their result against us (2-0) or equal it and take the decider to goal difference.

    If Lyon beat Fiorintina then we would just need to beat the Italians by any scoreline. Al, of this is based on us beating Debrecen.

    IMPORTANT:

    All the above would have been pretty similar even if we had beaten Lyon last night by 1-0. We could not have finished above Lyon due to them having a better head to head record than us, so a win for Fiorintina against Lyon would still have sent us out.

    So we could have done with scoring a second goal last night and holding on.

      Don't we need to score 3 against Fiorentina if everything else goes to plan to guarantee and if not how will the goal difference work?

      i.e.

      Lyon beat them in Italy.
      We beat Debrecen?

        Thats wrong im afraid.

        Due to Lyons equaliser last night we are now 5 points behind Fiorentina with 2games to play. If Fiorentina beat Lyon in 3 weeks they qualify, had we only been 3 points behind Fiorentina (with a win last night) a win for them against Lyon would NOT have gauranteed their qualification.

              Here are the all-important permutations ahead of the next round of matches:

              Liverpool beat Debrecen and Fiorentina beat Lyon: Liverpool are out.

              Liverpool beat Debrecen and Fiorentina draw with Lyon: Liverpool need to beat Fiorentina by three goals in their final game to go through.

              Liverpool beat Debrecen and Fiorentina lose to Lyon: Any Liverpool victory over Fiorentina in their last game will take them through.

                    I think Lyon will get a point. Fiorintina will attack like **** which will give Lyon plenty of chances on the counter and they've plenty of pace in forward positions.

                        Anyone knows what happens if we beat Fiorentina 2-0? Does it go down to goal difference?
