    Team Of The Decade

this article got me thinking.. im sure everyone has their own views. We have had a lot of **** in the team over the years as well as some great players. Here is my 11.

im going to go for a 4-5-1. Mainly because we mounted our best title challenge of the decade using it. I also enjoyed our football most while playing this formation. there is another big reason, but i will come to that later.

    GK - Reina

Pepe has completely redefined what i thought a keeper should be. his ability with both feet, vision in launching attacks, overall command of the box and communication make this a non brainer.

    RB - Finnan

Mr Reliable. I think people forget how decent his left peg was. I wasnt excited when we got him but he proved himself when Rafa came in 04/05, making the right back spot his own. As the article says too early for Johnson to be considered. Markus Babbel deserves a mention here because he was a great player, robbed of a career by a virus.

    CBs - Carra & Sami

Ok so far i am agreeing with everything in the previous article in terms of selection, but what red wouldnt go for this?? I love danny agger as a player, i think his ability to play the ball is the best of any centre back we have had at the club in 20 years. But Carra is just a legend who has sweat blood for the club and sami, well remember our defence before he showed up?? there is no argument here.

    LB - Riise

Scorer of great goals. United at Anfield, Everton away, the winner in the nou camp, the free kick against chelsea at Old Trafford. His last season was a stinker, but despite that Aurelio hasnt been fit enough to persuade me otherwise.

    DM - Alonso & Hamman

Mascher hasnt won anything as a Liverpool player. He is a great player but not worthy of a place here. Alonso was such a watchable player, amazing vision, a great attitude and i'll never forget how gutted i was when he left. what a great player. i wish him well for the great times he gave us.

Didi. What a legend. The second half in istanbul swung in our favour when he came on. he took a pen with a broken ankle. A chain smoker. A german who developed a scouse accent. I would love to have a pint with him.

    RM - Garcia

Many will disagree here. Luis was the man for the big occaision. Capable of producing anything from the sublime to the ridiculous, he would never be shy of trying though. thats why i liked him. One guy in the Echo once said "He would try and climb through the upstairs window even if the front door was open".

    LM - Paddy Berger

Awesome left foot. Had a few amazing few seasons in the early decade. Clinical around the area.

    SS - Gerrard

    This doesnt need comment.

    CF - Torres

Owen is a hard act to top. But Torres has illuminated Anfield since he came. He gets the nod over Owen because he is the complete striker, he can score any type of goal whatever the opposition.

I would have owen on the bench. But signing for THEM means he has no starting place.
    on the bench

    Murphy
    Kuyt
    Agger
    Masch
Dudek (Because you have to have a keeper and for Istanbul)

That made depressing reading. If we had that team we still wouldn't be fighting for the Premiership. We really need the Yanks to **** off and start buying some decent players.

Reina, Hyypia, Hamman, Gerrard and Torres are almost half a great side.

No Owen,Fowler or Macca and Agger has hardly been present.

          Fowler left 2001
          Owen left 2004

I'll grant you Macca, but to have Dirk ahead of Robbie Fowler - Wow

Those last 2 and a bit seasons Robbie wasn't really the player he was before. His league scoring record dipping to something below 1 in 3 by my rough eyeballing of the figures on wiki. Obviously he had injuries and his career before that is spectacular but he wasn't the genius from before which would have made the choice look daft.

Fowler would be in or around the team in my opinion.

According to Wiki, Fowler made 39 appearances and scored 12 goals between 05/06 and 06/07. Thing is though, I remember a lot of those appearances were 85th-90th minute subsitutions - I bet his goalscoring record wasn't far off 1 every 90 minutes. He also scored 21 goals for us between 2000 and 2002.

To have the lil louis of a few years ago back today, I'd have him way ahead of benny in todays side

Brilliant little player. Shame that the last we saw of him was when he was carried off against Arsenal in the cup

Id have Fowler over Owen every day of the week, and not becuase he joined the Mancs. Im reading Fowlers book again and i think he had a **** few years when he first joined city because of his mental state- if you read the book youd see he wouldnt have been like it if he had stayed at LFC (part of his depressed state was because he left).

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

i'd have an old knackered Fowler over Owen any day. Just his manner, attitude and the fact that even now he can still pull a cracker out of nowhere.
Owen was bloody good and won us a lot of things but his attitude was never fully there.

I'd pick Henchoz over Carragher, anyday. Hyypia got all the praise for their awesome defensive partnership but for Henchoz was the main man. Shame he looked knackered by the time kick off arrived though!
