    Rafa's Post Match Comments

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez insisted his side will finish in the Champions League places following their 2-2 home draw with Manchester City.
The Reds have lost five and drawn two of their opening 13 Premier League matches and are now 13 points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea.
But a defiant Benitez said: "When we have all our players coming back I am confident we will start winning games.
"If we can improve and play at our level, we will finish in the top four."
Despite the draw against fellow Champions League-hopefuls City, Liverpool are still within two points of fourth-placed Aston Villa.

You cannot be happy with a home draw, but to lose three players is very difficult
    Rafa Benitez
Injuries to Daniel Agger and Ryan Babbel during the game added to their ever-growing injury worries and Glen Johnson was ruled out before the game.
But Benitez, who is also without key striker Fernando Torres, expects a noticeable upturn in their fortunes when some of the sidelined stars return.
"We had a shocking day with injuries," said Liverpool's Spanish manager, whose side have managed just one win in 10 matches in all competitions.
"Glen was not happy with his calf and he had been limping a bit in training.
"Then we lose Agger and Babel. We had one problem after another. We had to use players who have not been training with the squad, but we still managed to score first.
"We felt we could hang on, then they scored twice and we had to show great character to hit back at them to get the equaliser.
"We then had a couple of great chances at the end and could have won the game.

"You cannot be happy with a home draw, but to lose three players is very difficult.
"And of course we had three players on the bench who have been for treatment in Belgrade and had not been training with the team.
"It is not easy to manage, but the reaction of the players was fantastic. You cannot ask for more from players in such a position."

I think those are fair comments.

          Prize money

UEFA awards €3 million to each team that qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, plus €2.4 million for participating in the Group stage. A Group stage win is worth €600,000 and a draw is worth €300,000.
In addition, UEFA pays each quarter finalist €2.5 million, €3 million for each semi-finalist, €4 million for the runners-up and €7 million for the winners. [2]
A large part of the distributed revenue from the UEFA Champions League is linked to the "market pool", the distribution of which is determined by the value of the television market in each country

Can't even read what the manager says anymore. It's just a laundry list of excuses. In the game I saw we still had 11 players most of whom are internationals. We gifted City way too much space for about 10 minutes before the first goal and everyone could see it was coming. A great manager changes things, but Rafa couldn't see the signs. It was a **** performance with notable exceptions in Masch (who no doubt will be leaving us soon) Pepe and Yossi. The defending is brutal and as Rafa's organiser on the pitch Carra has to take some blame. Instead he is busy walloping hopeless punts forward. Skrtel was to blame for both goals, the second allowing Tevez steal the ball off him. And why play two defensive midfielders when the opposition are scoring on every attack? Lucas simply failed to track Irelands run for their second and both he and Masch are responsible for Tevez wandering unmarked between the lines when he came on. It was obvious that Tevez was the difference for them but no-one was picking him up! The Lucas apologists are out in force on RAWK but he's not good enough in that position. It's too important. A better player would have taken that header. He's never going to score so why leave him in there. As for Kuyt, I just don't know where to start. How bad can El Zhar be really. And if he's in to cover for Carra then Carra shouldn't be in there. I could go on but what's the point. It's been said a million times. No matter what team we put out these days its one pathetic display after another.

I just don't see how Rafa can turn it around. I just don't see him ever winning the title. The tactics are poor, even the tight defence we once relied on is gone. The club as a whole seems to have now accepted that this is somehow alright. Last years progress now seems like a blip. Rafa will stay because the owners have no money, but its a gloomy outlook all around. I'd love if he just threw off the shackles and went for it now. We will lose some but maybe win more, and more importantly, it will give the fans something to get excited about this season. Entertainment Rafa... how about it?

Three weeks ago Rafa said: we can still win the leauge.

Now he' saying we can still make it into the fourth place!

What a pity! Injuries are our worst enemy at the moment but I can't see Rafa's logic in not bringing an experienced striker as back up for Torres!

                Yep, I noticed that.

Terrible really, selling Keane in last seasons januarys trasnfer window was ****ing madness, and IMO cost us the league. That was Rafa's decision and a terrible decision, a truely amaturish decision at that.

Keane was useless up front and we were well shot of him.

"Cost us the league? " What bollocks.

Keane was crap, but we could certainly use him this season with all the injuries. Maybe he wasn't given enough of a chance? yet the abysmal Kuyt is retained and plays every fecking game
                    We come not to play.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Kuyt is one of those players that needs the team to play well for him to play well. It's as if he gets his confidence from the team. When we play well he generally has good games, when we play poorly he doesn't have such good games
