    Relegation

Taking the worst 11 from the Liverpool first team squad, do you think they would be fighting a relegation battle?

a strange topic you may think but the thinking behind it is our squad depth as opposed to the other 'top' teams.

    Cavelieri
    Kelly
    Kyrgiakos
    Ayala
    Aurelio
    Lucas
    Plessis
    Riera
    Voronin
    Ngog
    Kuyt

Should a team like Liverpool really be able to put out a team as shocking as that? Discuss...

Insults should be shoved up your own arse before being typed into unfortunate computers, please debate with some class, this is a serious thread.

Who said Alonso wasn't Liverpool's key man?

PS, I still think the bones of the LFC first team is the best in europe, nevermind the premiership.

      That team would finish 10-16

In theory, the rest of the Premiership (bar top 7 or so) will be made up players who are not good enough for our first eleven but are yet too good to be sitting on the bench and being bit part players for the season. You will get exceptions to this (which is what putting together as strong squad is about ) with players like Scholes and Hyppia for us last year who are happy to be part of the squad even though not playing week in week out.

So in essence, yeah that team would be relegated because the weaker teams in the premiership will naturally have a stronger first 11 than our second string in order to compete.

          Aurelio worse than Insua???

I find it interesting that in the worst Liverpool 11 you can put out you include Aurelio instead of Dossena, I'll assume you forgot about him. But dealing with the team you listed there there are 5 internationals in that team (Kyrgiakos, Lucas, Riera, Voronin and Kuyt) plus Aurelio who was in the last Brazil squad, aside from reserve keeper Cavelieri the rest are young players (Kelly, Ayala, Plessis and Ngog) who may or may not make it. So I think your assessment is a little harsh. Some of the players may not be good enough or suitable for Liverpool but you are exaggerating how poor they are.

Your point is in relation to squad strength, the problem with us in comparison to the other top four (and big spending clubs) is the money we have to spend. We have some kind of trade off between quality and numbers on our limited budget, in attempting to catch up with them. We have a strong first 11 because we have invested in it if you want to assemble a strong 22 with the same budget you have to trade off quality in the first team
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'm not an Aurelio fan to be honest. I havn't forgotton about Dossena who, for me, is another to suffer bad treatment from Rafa. We saw what he could do last year in back to back games(I think) against UTD and Real Madrid only for him to be benched again after that(maybe he has too many injury problems I don't know) .He is rated highly in Italy and Italy know their defenders.

Aurelio for me offers nothing but a half decent left foot. I don't rate Insua either. Maybe he will improve with experience but his positional sense is awful.

It's a pity Degen isn't left footed. He IMO has the potential to be a really top full back but unfortunately he has Glen Johnson in that position. I'd be half tempted to play Johnson in front of Degen.

Disagree John. I think that team would easily finish between 10th and 15th.

So you think Dossena is better than Aurelio? In both the Real Madrid and Man Utd games Dossena came off the bench and played on the left side of midfield, getting goals when the games were won. He's been played in midfield because he can't defend.

Also I would be interested to know what you base you assumption that Degen can be a top quality full back on because he's only played 4 games for us.
